What meds do you take, and do you find you are either very coherent or extremely, extremely dumb and unusual for yourself if you drink alcohol at night?

If found it good when I was taking just 20 mg of dex in the morning & afternoon, when I started taking more at night I found going out I was more focussed yet it wasn't a good thing cuz I was less conversational and also became increasingly retarded approaching the hour of meds wearing off.

I recently went out drinking while my Strattera and Dex were wearing off and somewhat found this retarded.

A subjective question but I'm curious as hell to hear if anyone can please enlighten me with anything they've found. Thanks

I've had a couple of drinks at the tail end of Ritalin and it just makes me feel "blah." That's the best I can describe it... I suppose drinking alcohol doesn't help in the quick to respond category, but I become incredibly sluggish.

How much alcohol? Every night? Could be an interaction. Could be too much alcohol. Could be something else. Are you on any other meds? Check with the pharmacist, they know drugs and can really help you. But you have to know, if you a consuming a lot of alcohol, that in itself is a problem. Just concerned. BTW, don't drink until you get this figured out. Your health is to valuable to risk.

:soapbox: Request, please don't use the word retarded like that. It really hurts people with mental impairments. Try holding the sobbing Down Syndrome child who was called a retard. Heartbreaking. We don't want to be called lazy, crazy, stupid, slow, retarded (yes, I have heard this toward ADD/LD kids) or other horrid things. It is only fair to treat everyone with dignity. :soapbox:

my experience in the past was to drink and smoke pot as a teen on Ritalin and dexedrine and it was always a waste of alcohol or pot because I never felt anything but the blah feeling to begin with.

(pssst, "retarded" means "slowed." Hence, "mental retardation" refers to one with slowed or limited mental abilities. Oddly enough, referring to being drunk as "retarded" is not technically incorrect in this sense. That being said, yeah, I can see how that would be offensive as I have a hearing impairment and hate the term "deaf and dumb.")

Stimulants can counteract the mental effects of alcohol for many people. Sometimes this makes people feel as though they can consume more alcohol than would be wise. Some people will consume many drinks and still feel fairly focused and alter...until the stimulant wears off, at which point they feel the full effects of the alcohol consumed and crash...hopefully not literally (note: DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE, EVER, EVEN IF YOU ARE ON STIMULANTS).

Me, I used to enjoy drinking occasionally in college, but now that meds have given me the ability to actually use my brain to its full potential, I really can't find the urge to want to slow it back down. Just as stimulants can counter the effects of alcohol, alcohol can counter the effects of stimulants, decreasing the benefits one gets from them...as I found out at the last halloween party when I'd had a few drinks and wound up comparing fighting techniques (2.5 years MMA) with a Marine and a wrestler (for those who are interested, getting tackled on concrete doesn't hurt that much after a few drinks, but alcohol does make it more difficult to successfully execute an armbar). Yeah, sometimes judgement is a good thing.

Alcohol = Dopamine Release

Dexedrine = Big Dopamine Release

Having to much dopamine in the brain = slower, sometimes drunken behaviour, psychosis, violence, aggressive behaviour.

Or you're just particularly intolerant to the GABA released from the booze.

dex = stimulant

alcohol = depressant

The meds will counteract the alcohol to some degree. You might not realize how much you've had to drink untill the meds wear off. Then you'll crash into drunkenness. That said, stimulants wont prevent you from getting drunk. Just like coffee does not actually sober you up.
