My 11yr old son has been taking 36mg of concerta for a couple weeks now. I think he is doing very well now at school. Teacher even called and left a message saying he got all A's and 2 B's on last week's report card. The only drawback is that he is extremely negative in the morning, and evening. There is not one nice comment that comes out of his mouth. It's really beginning to get me down. I'm wondering if any of you out there think that he may be on too high of a dose, or if you feel it is the concerta that is making it worse??? Would really appreciate any comments before I have a breakdown myself!!

Gilly, the times you have mentioned are more than likely the times he is unmedicated, or his meds have worn off. He may be rebounding and miserable because he has lost his clarity. I do not think it is because of the Concerta, I believe it is because of the lack of Concerta in his system. I know my own child has been known to behave the same way at those times of day.
Hope that helps! :)

Thank you. Since this is the effect of him not being medicated, I guess it's something that I will just have to deal with then, eh? I haven't been giving it to him on the weekends but I think I will this week-end to see if I notice a difference in his attitude while the medication is working.

Yea, I never give my kid time off from her meds because of this type of thing. She wanted to take a break last year when school let out and I allowed her. After 3 days of being in non-stop trouble for her attitude she put herself back on them ;) LOL! Now that she has been on them for much longer she will admit that she misses the ability to think clearly when she occasionally sleeps in on the weekend and forgets her meds until later in the day.
She is 11 too  fun age isn't it?
