Hey all. This looks like a great site.

I'll be simple because my question is one of simplicity.

I'm diagnosed with ADHD. I take 40mg of Adderall for it. All is well, except for a few side effects. My doc wanted me to at least try Focalin for a while, so perscribed me some way back in September, but I never got around to trying it. Since I just ran out of my adderall, and I'm lazy and forgot to refill it, I decided to try it starting today, give it a week, then see where I'm at.

I remember him saying that you're supposed to talk 1/2 of what you took of Adderall...is this correct? 20mg of Focalin is the appropriate dose for someone taking 40mg of Adderall (not at the same day of course). Obviously I'm gonna call him on Monday but I'd rather not disturb him in an emergency so I came on here figuring it would give me some good advice without having to ruin my doctor's weekend. Also, does Focalin last longer or shorter than Adderall, or about the same length?

Anythign else I should know about with the switch?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

No. It's 1/2 the ritalin dose, not adderall. Welcome to the forums and I hope you find a nice and happy home here. You confused the two. it's 1/2 the ritalin dose. I don't know how you formulate it with adderall. My cousin is on Adderall for his ADHD and I plan to start focalin XR in one month when I see my doctor again. Best of luck to you.

Hey DavidK4456, welcome to the forums.

Andy is absolutely correct about Focalin usually being dosed at 50% of what Ritalin is dosed. Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) is the right isomer or right handed side of the methylphenidate molecule. I found it to be much more effective than Adderall, or Ritalin for that matter.

The Focalin I took was the XR version due to me printing off one of those free trial coupons at their website. I would have preferred to try the immediate release version, but as they say "beggars can't be choosers." I thought it was a wonderful drug. I look forward to hearing how you liked it.

I'm willing to share my experience but my doctor wasn't ready to prescribe it to me yet. She wants me to wait so that we don't make too many med changes in too short a period of time.

After checking a second ago the voucher is no longer on the website. Don't let that deter you though. Focalin is a great med.
