High doses of simvastatin upregulate dopamine D1 and D2 receptor expression in the rat prefrontal cortex: possible involvement of endothelial nitric oxide synthase

Methylphenidate down-regulates the dopamine receptor and transporter system in children with attention deficit hyperkinetic disorder (ADHD).

Adults suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are known to have disturbed central dopaminergic transmission. With Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) we studied brain dopamine transporter and receptor activity in six boys with ADHD. Three months after initiation of treatment with methylphenidate we found a down-regulation of the post-synaptic dopamine receptor with a maximum of 20 % and a down-regulation of the dopamine transporter with a maximum of 74.7 % in the striatal system. This corresponded to a positive clinical response evaluated by neuropsychological questionnaires and tests. We suggest that dopamine transporter imaging by SPECT might be used to monitor psychostimulant treatment in children suffering from ADHD.

simvastatin is a statin drug, statin drugs have been shown to effectivly reduce the chance of getting a stroke, beyond its LDL lowering effects

hmm, stimulants might be bad for your hearth, the perfect combo?

Statins can be bad for the heart too, no? They knock out Coenzyme Q-10, which is vital for heart function.

I had a patient once who had rhabdo from Statins. It is a form of muscle destruction. Can be fatal.

Those statin drugs scare me. I'd take fish oil and flax seed oil capsules over Statins, for improving my lipid profile. (That's what my mother did. When her MD sas how she got her LDLs down and her HDLs up, her MD couldn't believe it. Sadly, there is no research money for non-drug company research.)

Taking one drug (statins, for example) to negate the side effects of another drug (stimulants) makes me wary. Polypharmacy is really really dangerous.

i dont think that would make any difference in reducing your risk of getting a stroke, statins protect your hearth differendly

<!-- / message --><!-- controls -->
tolerance = receptor downregulation
zocor= receptor upregulation

prevent amphetamine tolerance is easy with an nmda antagonist, but its harder with ritalin

I would speculate that 500 mg per day (the average "speed freak" dosage) would blow anyones heart out...

i'm currently on a big search on methods to reserve tolerance and poop/out
i've got some intresting stuff

but i'l make a new thread soon, this one's a mess :p
