Went to doc yesterday.

She put me on .25mg of Elavil (Take 1/night for now)....

We're trying to wean me off of the Effexor .75mg I've been on for the last few years. So..

I take 1 Elavil @ night
1 Effexor XR .75mg every other day.
Do this for a week.

Then,
1 Elavil @ night.
1 Effexor every 3 days.
Do THIS for a week.

Then,
2 Elavils @ night.
No more Effexor :)

I asked the nurse today if Elavil was for my ADHD & she said "yes" & gave a brief explanation.

I remember doc saying that she didn't want to put me on stimulants since I'm still taking Effexor...THAT I understand...so she put me on Elavil instead.

Any experiences with this??

TCAs are used as second line treatment for ADHD. They are rather potent in blocking the reuptake of norepinephrine, supposedly. Usually Elavil is not the first choice for this purpose though. Elavil is a good choice for those with sleeping problems, and it does help, but desipramine (norpramin) is supposed to be more effective. It should be close to taking imipramine as far as effectiveness, I'd think.

Well, I'll make notes along the way & at my follow up, let her know if its helping or not.

You think it's to ease me off of the Effexor XR?

I heard Effex's a b**** to get off of.
I tried cold turkey once --------------------- it didn't work... LOL

effexor nearly killed me when i stopped it after only being on for 6 weeks. im exaggerating but i believe my story is rather unique. i was put on it after having an acute dystonic reaction to another med and i was still recovering from that, then when i stopped it i had such severe vertigo i could not keep food down, to the point i was dehydrated so severely my heart rhythms were off from potassium depletion. so ya, be careful with that.

elavil can make you very sleepy.

Well...so far, so good, y'all....

I took the elavil as I was instructed (ONLY ONE...lol) and today I didn't take the Effexor & actually fared very well.

No drowsiness, or feeling "foggy" like yesterday; seemed to be more patient in situations that would've irritated me & even when I did get mad (at my husband's horse), it was short-lived & I didn't freak out!! YAY!!!!

I am hopeful.
