ADD Drug Users,

Who here can claim that their medication regiment gives them a feeling of ultimate SELF-CONTROL if you know what I mean -- like you're perfectly in touch with time and space and able to shape and shift it as you please. Consciousness is I believe the term for it

Dexedrine does it to me most by far, and under certain circumstances involving lots and lots of excercise even more so.

If you get this feeling, PLEASE tell me what drugs you take and all that junk.

My medicine gives me the stop and think type of self control like yesterday I went without it and got a bit impulsive here on the boards about another member who I really disagree with and used a rather nasty choice of words to describe how I felt, and it wouldn't have happened if I had taken my dexedrine... I was warned and am still a bit angry because I feel that this member tells too many people who aren't bipolar that they are and some ADDer's are easily influenced and giving a severely hyper person bipolar medications when bipolar isn't the real issue makes it worse. Just like giving a bipolar person a stimulant alone and calling them hyper makes them a lot worse as well. I just feel self contained a lessened sense to use profanity.

I also find that many of the good habits I have initiated while medicated carry over into my unmedicated times, at least with the ADHD meds and ADHD traits.

I cannot claim the same for my BPII meds, because I never ever go without those anymore :) I realise that BPII is not something I get to control, but I find that while medicated, I can still still stop, think, and make a better choice if I get irritable about something (such as having a disagreement with someone, I can channel that elsewhere instead of going off on the spot).

I don't know exactly what you mean by self-control other than the subject I have addressed :) I do know that if I begin thinking I am the All-Being, Master of Time, Space and Dimension, I am in need of a serious med tweak. I don't believe any meds should make anyone feel like that.

I take Adderal XR, Lamictal, Abilify and Atarax, for the record.

I can really tell when someone makes me mad. I used to not really think things through and would spout off before thinking. Now that I'm on Ritalin I'm someone that can think things through, you can't just push my buttons... There is definitly less impulsivenes and that is with everything from driving in traffic, shopping, parenting, school... Everything.

No no it's a good thing, you are the master of time space and dimension as well as the all-being; Not having awareness of that is lame.

I totally agree, with you, CF.
Prescribed meds, shouldn't have a side effect of 'omnipotence'.

IMO, that may happen due to the 'observer effect', and not because of the actual meds, themselves.

i mean absolutely no disrespect in regard to OP, but if you are receiving a feeling of euphoria in any significant form (which i think master of time and space would apply) you are on too high of a dose and should seek immediate advise from your doctor.

I have just recently found the perfect dosage for myself (it only took a month.....) and it has the effect of allowing me to control all of the "voices in my head."

Don't take that the wrong way, i don't really hear voices, i just have a mind that is constantly in motion. I'll be writing a report and in the back of my mind i'll start thinking "gee, i wonder whether there have been recent advances in nuclear field containment in low temperature fusor designs?" I then wonder off on a winding journey of tangents that will consume my entire day. When taking a correct dosage of adderall, i simply feel normal. I don't go off on these wierd tangents. I actually can sit still and get with the program. THAT is what you should feel like.

I'll second the whole "what do you mean by self control" sentence. Because if by self control you mean that a very chaotic life is now more managable, yes the meds to give me a sense of self control. I mean, this feeling of being able to direct the ship rather than the ship dragging me along with it is new with my medication. (Dexedrine for me too.)

But that sense of self control can quickly vanish when I realize that the meds only keep me on the course. I still have to rely on many other methods to "map out the course" if you will.
