I just wanted to share with everyone the importance of really really checking out the moving companies you hire to move your stuff -- especially long distance.....

I JUST got back my stuff (and it was only about 90% of it).....from the moving company I had hired to move my stuff back from California to Florida.....I had asked them to have it to me by November 15 (original request made November 5)...and I JUST got it back Thursday night......

For five weeks I had slept on the floor and was living with practically nothing.....Turns out the movers I had hired had gone out of business SMACK in the middle of the moving job they were doing for me.....so ANOTHER moving company, thank God, picked up the slack, if you will......

They had EVERYTHING of mine.....So beware.....Moving companies are NOT honest people.....:(

Wow, I hope you can either get your missing stuff back or have it replaced at no expense to you. That bites. My mom moves about twice a year, and has always used the same guys without trouble (but not across the country). I think they had references.. maybe insurance too. I hope there is a way to even this out for you!

Thanks Subtle....I doubt I will get back the other 10% EVER.....I just consider myself lucky I got back the 90% I did.....and everything of sentimental value did get returned to me.....I mean that stuff cannot be replaced....

SOOOO glad to be sleeping in my own bed the last few nights....I will NEVER again take my bed for granted.....:)

Hey Joan,

I am glad you FINALLY got your stuff! Wow, what an ordeal that was. Sorry that happened to you.

I hope you have a good Hanukkah.

Thanks James....It WAS an ordeal...and it's been suggested by a lady here at work that I should sue.....but I probably won't bother....

I'm at a place of gratitude....sort of like some of the stuff your lovely poems talk about....:)

Merry Christmas to you and your family.....:)

Well, that is a good place to be, Joan. At home I can say the same but work is another story, but I guess I have a lot to be thankful for, even if work is currently the opposite of Invigorarting.

Thanks Joan.

Yes my work is only somewhat invigorating as well.....but for today it's okay....:)

And I get Christmas off with pay....that is nice:)

Joan, I feel for you. I'm in the military and I've been moved by movers 3 times so far in 6 years (that doesn't include self done moves) and everytime there are issues. And these are goverment contracted movers!! I second your warning, be very careful. Not only do incidents like your occur, but also they will quote you one price and demand 2x as much and hold your furninture and possesions hostage. There is very little that can be done, so be sure you know the reputation of the company you are dealing with! Google search them and contact the BBB.

Thanks Angie....I'm taking your words to heart....and I do need to contact the BBB regarding not only the movers who were supposed to move my stuff -- and quit in the middle of the job -- but also the brokers who hired them.....

I'm sorry about the struggles you have had as well.....:(

Well I hope you can at least get them in small claims court. Good luck! At least you aren't sleeping on the floor any more (that's what I refer to as Urban Camping).

Spase: Small claims court? Hmmmm, we'll see.....

NOPE not sleeping on the floor anymore....I'm sleeping in my cute little twin bed:) And VERY grateful......No more "urban camping".....I like that term:)

Thanks Paula....It was awful.....I'm getting over it though....and putting together my apartment little by little....:)
