Well done Site David, Andrew, Tara and Crissy.

I am 43, a father of 2 wonderful daughters, (11 and 5), a husband, a small business owner and going back to school for a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I graduated from HS with a 1.0 gpa, almost the lowest in my class, and I was not diagnosed with ADD until late in the year 1996. In 1996 I was at my wits end, when finally a neurologist diagnosed me with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. After the sleep study results confirmed the diagnosis, I started treatment via a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), and I felt terrific in comparison to how I felt before. Almost immediatly after beginning treatment for sleep apnea, I was also diagnosed with "ADD" and with a mild but chronic depression (Dysthymia). The dr said my ADD was always there, but it was hidden by the symtpoms created by the sleep apnea, so it went undetected until the sleep apnea was treated.

With a CPAP and with medication (Welbutrin) for the ADD/Dythymia, I went back to school in 1997 and finished my BA in Psychology and Anthropology and in summer of 1998 graduated Cum Distinction. This was the first time in my life that school was literally easy. Prior to then, school required blood sweat and tears and in the past I didn't have enough of those body fluids to continue in school for very long periods of time.

Once I graduated in 1998 I wanted to go to graduate school, but funds were a problem. I created a small business to fund my education but unknowingly got pre-occupied with developing a business enterprise from 1998 to now.

However, I have put my foot down and am re-entering the graduate program for the Clinical Psychology doctorate beginning in May.

I spend a lot of time on the internet talking to people with ADD and/or Sleep Apnea

I have found that many people have both conditions, but most often have not checked the sleep apnea side and are suffering unnecessarily from additional symptoms of sleepiness and depression which exacerbates the ADD symptoms. My goal is to help educate people about ADD and Sleep Apnea.

My other goal is to let people know about the benefits of Psycho-drama therapy, which allows people to process their emotions, creativity, and spontenaity much easier, a service I believe is of invaluable use to persons with ADD. I have been training towards Psychodrama licensure for a year and half now, taking classes twice a week 9 months of the year, and it will take an additional 3 years to complete all the requirements. This is seperate from the doctoral program.

So I stay pretty busy, going to school, running a business, being a father and spouse, and talking on the internet about ADD and Sleep Apnea. Drugs like Strattera and Welbutrin have been very helpful to me in my abilility to function well.

Thanks to all of you for a wonderful site here. Thank you to Tara for inviting me to visit.
