View Full Version : For the Young At Heart- Toys (0:
I watched several episodes, on 'Our Favorite Toys', tonight.
Being a 'baby boomer', my favorite toys, when I was young, may be different from some of yours...
But I bet most of you have at least one favorite toy...if not several, that you either remember, or still have.
I've been on a quest, for several years now, to find and purchase, all the toys that were my favorites, that I no longer have.
I've managed to do that, for most...but I still have some 'originals' that I personally had, left to find.
Some of my favorite toys (in no order of importance) were:
Silly Putty
Pez (I know this is a candy dispenser- but it was sooo cool !)
Lite Brite
View Master
Mr. Potato Head
Hoola Hoop
EZ Bake Oven
Play Doh
Slinky
Wishkin Trolls
Barbie Doll
Crayola Crayons (64 box with sharpener)
String Art
Paint By Number
Chatty Cathy Doll
Mrs. Beasley Doll
Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls
Anyone else wanna share their list ? (0:
~Ødd~Scr~θθball 01-11-07, 12:56 PM Hey Nova, What a Cool site and a great way to travel back into those poignant nostalgic Baby Boomer memories. Here's a peek inside my Toy Chest:
1st and favorite toy: A 1 dollar wind-up take-apart toy my folks ordered from a catalogue. It's called "Mr. Screwball" and he shuffles across a table or floor. I still own it to this day and it still works. It sort of sums up a lot about my Scrooball personality!
2nd Various stuffed animals-mostly cats; 2 with rabbit fur, a blue stuffed monkey, a brown rabbit fur tailed squirrel and a white and black dog with a wind up music box stuffed inside.
3rd My baby dolls-some were drink-an-wet which I thought was hilarious...
4th: Lincoln Logs-Remember when they were all wooden and the only plastic part was the ridged red roof and you used those green wood slats on it so it looked like log chalet?
5th A train set with metal tracks. The train did not run on batteries or electricity. it had a push lever of some kind on it.
6th My Lite Brite set. Loved those color pegs all lit up!
7th My etc-a-Sketch. I loved to "Color" the whole thing so I could see down inside where the pointer moved on those little tracks and you could see the silver stuff.
8th My Lola Little Kiddle doll with her little boat, sailor outfit and white cap.
9th A"Plaint" tempera no-spill paint set. Any Baby Boomers remember those?
10th My little sister's Original Spyrograph set and her Dragon Plastigoop thing maker.
11th Color Forms, Sewing cards, and those Magic water color dot books that required only water and a wet paint brush to "color"the picture.
12th Real Crayola crayons, Neat color books. and of course those Little Golden Books
13th The Original Slinky. The new ones are pretty but they lack the stuff of which real Slinkys are about: That wonderful noise they made when shuffled back and forth in your open palms and the amazing ability to flip down steps
14th My beginner roller-skates with the adjustable foot-board and lace up straps and buckles
15th A real Magic 8 Ball that had a solid feel and a enough liquid inside to make the answer readable.
16th My viewmaster with 9 "Wizard of Oz" reels
17th My blue and white tea set with a little silverware set
18th A metal stove and refrigerator set with plastic molded food
19th Play doh that stayed workable for several months
20th My Mister Potato Head- Think real potato with push plastic features
Ah-h-h Such a fleeting thing is Childhood. Wish we could open a door and return to it whenever we could.[SIZE=5][COLOR=DarkOrange]
Cool OS !
I'm a 'grownup-kid' anyways, so returning to the age of 'awe and wonder', is something I do daily, lol !
I still buy cereal, on occassion, for the toy inside the box. (0:
I remember the 'drink and wet' doll !
I loved the Spyrograph too !
I've managed to find, and own the original 'slinky'.
I know what you mean about the 'newer' version of it, and how it doesn't seem the *same*.
I also own the 'magick 8 ball'.
Still laugh when I pick it up, and flip it over.
I carry the Silly Putty, in its 'egg/container', in my purse !!!
Can keep me occupied for 'hours', when I'm stuck somewhere 'boring'. (0:
My favorite toys:
~Legos
~Barbie Dolls (just to decapitate and pain them :p)
~Slip 'n Slide
~Stuffed Animals
~Super Nintendo
~Etch a Sketch
~Slinky
~Light Bright
And I have many more; when I babysit, I even play with their toys after they go to bed :D
fasttalkingmom 01-11-07, 07:28 PM I'm going to copy most of yours and a couple more
Silly Putty
Lite Brite

Mr. Potato Head
Hoola Hoop
Play Doh
Slinky
Barbie Doll
Crayola Crayons (64 box with sharpener)
Paint By Number
Raggedy Ann... I still have a HUGH one I got when I was about 7.
*Barbie's camper
*Tonka dump truck, it was light blue
*My kitchen set with a working sink !! :)
*baby dolls and all that goes with it. I used to use tape to keep my "babies" diapers on !! If I only knew, I would be rich today.
Ooooooooh !
Slip 'n' Slide !
That totally rocked !!!
I *hear* ya, FTM !! :D
I broke my 'easy bake' oven, because I put a couple of different colored candles, in it, to melt them.
I wanted to make 'swirly' colored candles.
I was going ot 'dab' 'em with my Granmere's 'lavender' essential oil, after I 'remade' them, and give 'em to her, as a surprise. :p
Wax melted, and oozed out all 'ova da place'.
What a mess !! :D
They sell scented candles, in 'all' colors now..some even 'swirly'.
(maybe I should hold off on finding, and buying the 'easy bake' oven, again...
I'll prolly use it for summin else, other than making tiny edible cakes)

~Ødd~Scr~θθball 01-11-07, 10:01 PM Hey Nova, your Easy Bake Oven escapade with the candles made me recall when my older sister and I would melt our worn down crayons over a large floor register and make mixed colors to color with or mold into other things.
Ah-h-h yes, to be a kid again but I guess I'll have to settle for being a kid at heart.
And Paws13 Playing with your baby-sitting charges' toys is one of the perks of child-care work. :D Ditto for taking children to the library-its a chance to look at some of those child-hood books. Loads of fun! :) :D ;)
