View Full Version : Do you find my new sleepings habits weird?
Ok so i was noticing adderall makes me sleep way to much so i figured i would try and tinker with that. (adderall xr 30)
(dont worry i didnt do this back to back days lol)
day 1: i let the adderall do its thing and let me sleep like 12-13 hrs.
- The usual i slept to much and feel like the adderall isnt working at full strength and kept me edgy
day 2: I slept for only 8 hrs
- THe adderall worked but lasted maybe only till 6pm and wasnt at full strength
day 3 : I slept for 5 hrs
- Adderall was at full strength throughout the whole day but not all the time..it was more an on/off thing.
day 4: I did not sleep and just took an adderall
- Complete control over my hyperness and my mind. I felt like a new person, i was able to do things I couldnt before(due to anxiety issues, ADD etc..)
why does the amount of sleep i get change around my adderall results. Seems the more sleep i get the less of an effect i get?
Of course im not dumb enough to not sleep at all, i do alto tend to do it once a week for the fact that I feel in total control over every situatiion..
thanks
zacharry 12-26-06, 01:18 PM try this: wake up with a normal amount of sleep. ~8 hours. spend the first 3-4 hours of your day doing something active. go for a walk, a run, go to a coffee shop with the newspaper and some tea... but don't take the adderall. then when you're done... around 11 or 12, take the adderall and see if it works any better. you might just need to wake up and get out of that sleepy fog.
Bipolarruledout 12-26-06, 08:33 PM I don't quite understand the question. Your body needs sleep and the amount you get per night may have more to do with your daily functioning than your meds.
If I don't get enough sleep the meds just don't work. I'm like a zombie... but at least I'm not falling asleep.
Are you unable to sleep at night or do you have bad sleep habits (like me)? If your sleeping a real long time you might just need the sleep or you could have other issues entirely. Tell your doctor.... there are only a million differant possibilites.
LittlePrincess 12-27-06, 12:11 AM Oddly enough, I do what zacharry suggested nearly every day. I wake up around 8am and drink some coffee or tea to get me through the morning... Then, I usually take my Adderall (XR 30mg) after a big lunch around noon. Taking it this way allows the Adderall to gradually get in my system and get me motivated instead of "hitting" me first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I can be completely on task for the rest of the afternoon and until about 9pm that evening. By midnight, the Adderall is out of my system and I'm ready to get a great night's sleep.
I find that if I take the Adderall XR too early, I crash too early (about 5pm) and my evening is shot. If I take it too late in the afternoon, I'm up all night. So right around lunchtime has been working out perfect for me. :)
I read somewhere that sleep decreases norepinephrine in the brain. Sleep deprivation is sometimes used in people suffering from depression(temporary solution). The decrease or absince of sleep increases norepinephrine turnover and relieves depression. Sleep deprivation probably has other effects on the brain, rather than just changes in norepinephrine. You say the adderall works better when you get less sleep, perhaps you are experiencing an improvement of mood, rather than an improvement of adhd symptoms.
Food for Thought:)
LittlePrincess 12-27-06, 01:01 AM That is some interesting information, nzkiwi... I've never heard of that before. Maybe that explains why some depressed people just want to sleep all the time (maybe?).
Hey everyone thanks for the responses!

Nah its not a better mood, the way I act with no sleep is the way I like being. I act completly serious, I mean a laugh here and there but other than that I am completly serious with everything and for some reason I love it because I think better and act towards thing better. Pretty much the opposite of how I am. For some reason I like it. Its like I have 100 things goin on in my head and I can pick the right one right away with no sleep. With adderall and sleep I have a huindred things in my head and can narrow it down to 2..

See thats really hard for me to do, I go to school from 8am till 12, then I have work normally from 230 - 11 .. lol so waking up early usually isnt easy for me, and when i do i really do not have time for any kind of activities, I pretty much need the adderall right away for school..
thanks

if this is the case, would it be better to see how a form of ritalin works? seeing as how it doesn't effect norep like amphetamine?
Yea I was thinking that myself.. I am going to try taking vitamins before I sleep for a day or two.. who knows maybe my body is depleted of vitamins and making me act weird lol
i was thinking about ritalin, but does ritalin just calm you down? Casue i know adderall speed up your mind, I like being able to want to learn new things because i can remember everything i learn now.
thanks alot
I personally feel better with less sleep, within reason. Oversleeping definetely makes me feel sluggish and less mentally nimble. I guess you need to find a balance, not to much sleep, not to little. I think adhders generally have problems with sleep regulation. I would guess that a regular sleep schedule(routine) would improve adhd symptoms. Sleeping 10hrs one night, then 4hrs the next, probably doesn't help symptoms.
I was told by a psychiatrist that Adderall (or any adhd med) will help you to sleep if you are a very hyperactive person. It allows your mind and body to calm down, thus, being able to sleep. It doesn't work for though. Everyone is different.
With me taking multivitamins and 10mg IR before I sleep I am able to wake up. Iv been trying to figure things out, and iv noticed 4 to 5 hours of sleep usually makes the XR kkep me calm throughout the day alto near the end of the night..8ish or 9ish i get kind of tired lol.. is that healthy tho sleeping only that much? I mean compared to before adderall when I got 3 hours of sleep I think its good ..
