Im not sure if it has been discussed thoroughly but i searched and couldnt find much on this. So my question is what is ok to do and take while on add/adhd medication such as adderall. Is it ok to take multivitamins and if so when? is it ok to weight train and take protein. What are the necessary precautions and dietary information for exercise while on add meds. I have exercised while on adderall XR20 a few times and it seems to help. I can sustain longer times in cardio and lift more weight and more reps. is this normal and safe? Any help and any info would be great. Thanks!

Not only is it OK it's recomended. Protein, vitamins, and antioxydants are very important. As far as vitamins go the only minor issue is vitamin C. It should not be taken with adderall as it may reduce it's effects althrough I think this point if often overstated. You doctor may need to up the dose slightly. I personaly recomend dl-phenylalanine in combination with B complex but it should not be taken with food. It's a dopamine precursor and helps alot with "stimulant crash" I find that 500-1000mg twice per day works wonders but it's somewhat unconventional. It really saved me when I was taking barr dex. You may want to go easy on the cardio at first however, stims do raise you heart rate.

I have been using Creatine and Glutamine along with two different kinds of protein powders. I take Muscle Milk before bed and Kaizen whey protein in the morning. Throughout the day I also take glutamine caps and creatine caps. I take a multivitamin at night with echinicea and garlic caps. I have found that my adderall actually works better during the week when I am on all that and eating super healthy on a PH balancing diet.
As for working out: I work out in the morning at 6:00 am and then take my adderall at around 9 or 10 a.m. I can really feel it kicking about an hour later and then it lasts till about 2 or 3 and then I take a 10mg to keep it rolling. I usually do cardio at night before bed. Like I said up top....my meds work great. when I cheat on my diet and start drinking diet pop and eating pasta and sugars, I don't really feel the adderall working as well as it has. I usually only cheat once a week and I veg so I rarely take the pills then. Anyways, I don't see anything wrong with getting exercise and taking supps while on meds. That's just me though.

Thanks tp8181. Yeah, i found that the adderall actually helped me exercise and helped me do more (lift more, more cardio, more endurance) which would require me to take a decent amount of supplements (vitamins, fish oils, protein, etc) so i wanted to see if there were any other exercise buffs here on adderall and how its been working. Good to know. Thanks again.

i am big into exercise and nutrition, and i think it can only help your ADD and should not interfere with your meds too much. i take whey protein, fish oil, and an assortment of antioxidants for health and body composition.

just make sure you breath properly when exercising with great intensity, as the ADD meds could raise your blood pressure and heart rate slightly.

question for tp8181 - have you found creatine monohydrate to interfere (amplify the effect?) of your adderall? i am also taking creatine, and if you read in my other post, i am suddenly having an issue of amphetamines putting me to sleep.

creatine (neuroprotective, changes water balance) was one of the few things i have done differently that could potentially be involved in this problem.

I have been doing endurance cardio - gretaer than 1 hr + for over 20 years, been on Adderall the last year, and found it to help motivation - and therefore everything. It really helps with the discipline of getting regular workouts. Im now older and slowing down a bit - and need to focus to keep my motivation.

The only problem is that Adderall increases my water needs by a factor of 2. Ive gone from 4 to 8 liters a day. There seems to be no way around it.

thats actually a good thing though. water is really good for working out esp cardio, and it the more of it u drink the more it helps ur body in terms of cleaning it out in a sense.
