Jonathan here, and living in Florida. Long posts seem to be my trademark. I've been diagnosed ADD since 1996 along with Sleep Apnea. Returned to college after treatment for both, and graduated in '98. I'm a doer. I don't curry much favor for those who feel sorry for themselves. I feel much of the inhibitiion to take action is depression related, which is partly due to untreated or poorly managed ADD. Without treatment for the depression aspect of ADD, as well as the ADD itself, and the Sleep Apnea, I could not have lifted myself out of my own inhibition to take action. So my treatment has been 3 prong, and that does not include my interest in and treatment through therapy modes as unique and result oriented as psychodrama. Two and a half years of psychodrama therapy 3 hours a week, along with intense conference style sessions including 30+ hrs of therapy at a time, have stimulated a tremendous amount of personal growth and moved me to action and improvements in my life.

Florida is not as sunny as they say, its hotter, its sweatier and buggier, and its got more alligators and 5 poisionous types of snakes in large numbers, but its still better than those freezing winters in Ohio!

I don't buy "I can't". I believe it's really "I won't", "I'm afraid to", " I don't know how", "I'm not willing to take serious risks" or I'm not willing to put the sweat equity in".

One can stew in their ADD soup until they are tired of eating the same rotten vegetables every day.

I am Patty, 44 years old, West Palm Beach. Diagnosed with ADHD. I would love to chat with others from Florida.

I went to ADD/ADHD meetings for adults at the Olive Garden in Lake Worth months ago, they no longer are going on? Enjoyed meeting people with Add/ADHD but it was confusing! Wanted to get advise on coping and other topics, found us all eating and them, talking about their old drug days!! lol  I was more informed than I gave myself credit for. Looking for someone to talk with about my experiences. :D

My adult son was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 35. Since then, I've tried to find help for him locally; finally found a counselor this year. He seems paralyzed, unable to pick up the pieces of his life and move on. Jonathon struck a cord--it seems very possible that his inability is due to depression plus incorrect (medication) dosage. If I hadn't been so persistent, we would never have discovered the cause, much less find all the resources that are suddenly springing up. Hey, Jon, who is your therapist?

Several of us are trying to start an adult ADD support group in Tampa. Meetings are 2nd Wed. of the month @ 7 p.m., Valencia Gardens Restaurant, Kennedy Blvd., Tampa. Info: 813/264-2404 or 813/282-1367. Please join us and help this group take off.

Hey, never posted here before, so I am. Live in Cocoa Beach, FL. Parents knew i had ADHD, since I was in grade school, but never went forward with any treatment. Now at 24, I had to seek treatment for myself. The postponed treatment made my condition harder to deal with.

Hello everyone--
I live in Orlando and I have a sister in Tampa who probably has ADD (we are trying to get her diagnosed). I just join this forum recently because I am looking for a good psychiatrist in the Hillsboro/Pinellas county area to help my sister. She has many of the ADD characteristics from the research I've done so far. She is 20 years old and also has a heart condition. She feels so lost and alone and I am desperate to help her... to show her that she is a beautiful, bright, and unique person. This forum is amazing... I didn't know how much support and information was available.

Thanks everyone,
Sue :)

Hi, I live in Tampa. Recently I talked to my Dr. regarding how I felt and he put me on Ritalin to see how I do. Since starting Ritalin on August 24, I feel that my world is not spinning anymore. I can read a book without falling asleep and I don't fall asleep in meetings at work or have to move around because I'm bored. Believe the Dr. told me that I'm ADD not hyper but with distractablity, inattentiveness and OCD.

Hope to talk to other and find out more.

Hi everyone,
I live just outside of West Palm Beach. My 17 year old son and 26 year old daughter both have inattentive ADHD, my husband has the hyperactive ADHD and I was recently diagnosed with inattentive ADHD.

I was so glad to find this forum since the other one I was on didn't have a whole lot of activity. This place has a lot of great information and resources too.

One of my passions is to educate others about ADHD and remove the stigma that others attach to ADHD. I also like to keep up with the latest research. I'd love to see more research on the inattentive type of ADHD and studies with adults and women in particular.

Looking forward to meeting others in Florida.

Hello! Melody here, 35 yo married w/ 1 daughter. Combo-type ADD. Recently diagnosed hoping that I hit the nail on the head w/ my first dose of meds because I am getting much more done than ever! Own a company with my husband that has been a huge struggle the past several years. Working on ways to deal with that mess, so thankfully the meds are indeed working! LOL
Started an Adult ADD meetup group recently - http://www.meetup.com/The-Altamonte-ADD-Social-Club/
And I too have posted several times in the main sections but just visited here! What? Order? Pay attention? Pffft - you're on the wrong board! LOL

I am Chris. I am now 29. I am from Bonita Springs, FL. I am returning. Some of you probably remember me from the old Yahoo Chat days. Who could forget all that drama?!? Believe it or not I was looking through old e-mails on Yahoo and forgot I was even on here. Its been a while.

I am still working in TV News as a photojournalist. Have covered many hurricanes and just an update. Sometimes I get sent to shoot video out of a helicopter. I won two Associated Press awards for some of my work. I am proud of that. Been in Florida for 5 years.

I am A.D.D but I try not to let it bother me as much. Although at times I exhibit the behaviors of it but it is not as much. At times I need to remember when I talk to others that I need to make eye contact. I am getting better at it.

Hello... Troy is my name. I hail from Ormond Beach, FL.

I have a teenage daughter diagnosed with AD/HD, bi-polar, ocd, odd, etc, etc, etc. You know the routine of labels. We have been dealing with this for 9 years.

My spouse is a possibility of ADD. We have been married for 7 years but the ADD has not been very prevalent until the past 3 years.

I think we all have a touch of ADD in us. I am on here to learn how to cope with ADD and how to help them cope with it.

Thanks for the site!!!

i all! Betty from Fort Myers.
Fell through cracks a very long time ago. Horrific car wreck when I was 20 yrs. sent me into FM. on top of the ADD. Have childhood abandonment issues. I internalize everything.. Have "pretended" my life away.
Self help book finally gave me my conclusive diagnosis Sept, 2011. Have always know I was different...always looking....hiding My favorite day is when I 'm alone and my run-a-way brain...............rests.
I don't intend to start taking meds st my age. How lucky I am to have a spouse who loves me and does what is needed to help me. I get frustrated quickly.
I am 78 next month
I did go through a spell of grief after reading last book .(Sari Solden, Adult Women With ADD/HD) my life began to play like a video before me. I was able to see for the first time how ADD entangled my life as far back as I can remember.
I'm OK......... not unhappy.....wish I know

hi

Cathy recent relocation to Tampa Bay diagnosed at 18 - symptoms since at least early childhood in abusive family who did not believe in therapy for fear of being outed.

Currently off meds for 2 yrs to try homeopathic/alt remedy - unsuccessful and made more chronic/acute.

Lol. I should have said users who still use the site frequently...:giggle:
And I will also assume that you have a greyhound. I know this is off topic but I felt I should share that I just adopted a 9Y/O whippet and he is so lovely with all his faults and all. It has been a great 3 months with him. :)

I had no choice but to accept him as he was in terrible shape and I thought no one would give him a chance. I am honestly surprised by the affection he shares after the horrible life he must have had. The poor dog had so much trauma. But, he has such a great spirit now. I hope you are able to get one soon. :)
