I was diagnosed a year ago with ADHD and have been on Adderall in combination with other combos for about a year with no success. But I have been recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and major depression. In the evenings, I currently take 750mg of Depakote for bipolar disorder. Upon awakening, I take 150mg of Effexor XR for my depression.

I have been ordered to completely stop stimulant-use. Right now, I don't care about my ADD. I care about getting off this damn drug Adderall. My doctor's maximum recommended dosage per day was 4-5 20mg Adderall tablets per day, which seems to be extremely high according to
everyone except my doctor. Well, I'm back to square one in trying to stop Adderall considering that following my doctor's recommendation of taking only 1 20mg Adderall tablet in the morning and 1 20mg Adderall tablet in the evening almost got me fired from my job and countless other things. I cannot do this 1 tab in the morning and 1 in the evening plan.

I get so angry, depressed, and tired that I can't function anywhere. Can't I start from 5 tabs a day and slowly tiltrate my way downward to like 4 1/2, 4, 3, etc? How many pills should I eliminate in a certain time period? For example, since I've been on 5 tabs for awhile, should I subtract a half of a tab per dose per week? Or, what would be recommended in terms of stopping this drug? I don't want to go into work so angry and depressed like I was when trying to do the 1 and 1 thing. Damn I wanted to die that day. It was the worst day of my life. Can someone with experience please help? I want off of this damn thing without feeling so miserable.

I'm getting off of it now. what is the biggest problem getting off it the tiredness? I guggest take some time off work if you have it and just go to bed early adn just lay on teh couch all day and do nothing, to get the "tirednes" out of your system. i am unemployed, and have spent the last week doing that, and now am starting to get clear of the adderall and that norrible tiredness. if you can't take off work, then just try to bear the feeling for a while and realize it is temporary. all that i'm assuming that it's the tiredness that's making your life miserable without the adderall, i don't know... if not, i'm sorry for assuming.

i also will add that i feel extremely depressed too, along with the fatigue. but those are separate things. i feel depressed now, but the fatigue is lifting away. it feels good to getting my "NATURAL" energy back, rather than depend on adderall for the energy of the day, and then when it runs out in the evening i can't even move i'm so tired. that's why i got sick of it and quit, the only thing is i have a problem wtih my appetite now. but i'll bear with that.

I don’t know about that because that is what I take. It doesn’t seem high to me I don’t even feel it. I just wander less and get more done.

This is how people are back off opiods, like Loratab, I don’t see why this wouldn’t work for you. Although I have quit taking my Adderall by simply forgetting to take it or forgetting to pick it from the pharmacy until I am completely out and the pharmacy is closed.

I would back down by ½ of a pill per week beginning with the dose taken during the least stressful time, then a week later back another dose by half a pill until all you take is 10mg a day. Begin day one of the new lower dose on your first day off to give you some adjustment time before returning to work.

Naturally you should run this by your prescribing doctor first sense I am just the average ADDer on Adderall and nothing I say should be substituted for medical advice by a qualified health care professional
