Currently taking Concerta(18 mg)..side effects are now ok with the exception of burning/painful urination....constant..all day deal.
What medications have the least side effects?
What about Desoxyn or others?

Side effects are totally dependent upon a person's particular chemistry. There is no "safest" or "least side effected" medication. There is only "the best medication for you" ;)
Please report the urinary tract issue to your doctor. We cannot give medical advice here at ADDF.

For a more immediate relief of your UTI drink lots of cranberry juice, but that won't cure it, just will hopefully keep you peeing plenty and not have as much stinging. Absolutely see your doctor, soon.
I would mention the burning sensation to your doctor, it's possible the medication isn't the cause.

A urinary tract infection is not the only thing that is capable of causing dysuria (burning or stinging urination).
Dysuria can also be the result of kidney stones, prostatitis, reactive arthritis, and STD's just to name a few.

Good point. The cranberry juice won't hurt though, and if it helps, it helps. If it doesn't...well, you try the next thing that might bring some comfort while the doctor handles the meds.

I thought cranberry juice was a mild diuretic, which would mean that it would likely cause an increase in his urination frequency.
Considering that OHIOMAN claims that it hurts to urinate all day, it would seem likely that anything increasing the frequency of urination would probably hurt at this point.
I do not mean to offend you, or appear to argue with you by any means, this is just my opinion.
I agree with you completely about him seeing his doctor soon.

It's ok, I'm not offended by the exchange of information.
I have had multiple UTIs and my mother had a kidney stone. Drinking drinking and drinking feels much better, every time you pee more bacteria gets flushed out of your system. It hurts less when I can sit down and pee a lot rather than sit down and go "tinkle tinkle".
Again, it's not a cure. (though I have personally gotten rid of UTIs with just cranberry methods, but that's another thread and doesn't work every time, nor would doctors recommend it.) I'm just thinking of relief and comfort, and this is my experience.
I wish I had more to offer.
Keep us posted ohio.

I'm seeing the doc on Friday.
I will say that this issue with the UTI didn't start until I was prescribed Concerta.
I'm going to ask to be switched to a low dose of Dexedrine or Desoxyn.
Thanks
