We are still in shock from our 10 yr old daughter's diagnosis and now, her first day on the medication, she is sick, headachy, dry mouth, stomach ache, dizzy, etc. Every side effect listed, she has.
The doctor put her on 20 mg of Adderall. It's Saturday and her dr. is not on call. Would a lower dosage minimize the side effects?
Do they get used to the meds and not feel as sick after a while?
In my experience, I've gotten used to my adderall. My doctor started me out at 5mg and we worked up to 20mg and then decided on the best dosage (I hated the 15 and 20 mg). You may want to see if this is an option with your doctor; your daughter may also need to try other medications. My doctor explained that deciding on the best medication is really just trial and error--they don't have all the answers.
If your daughter is experiencing all of the side effects, I'd call the doctor on Monday first thing. I know some doctors have home numbers when you absolutely HAVE to reach them, but I don't know if it's so in your case. I guess I don't want to say, "lower the dosage and see what happens" as I am not a medical doctor (however at lower dosages, Adderall has worked with fewer side effects, but that's me).

I think he should have started her out on a smaller dose and work up...Adderal gave me a lot of symptoms like that at first...cutting back a little and then working up helped me a lot....ask him if you can start her on a tiny dose and work up.....good luck, and keep us posted...

20mg is alot for your 10yr old daughter. i personally would expect a doctor to put her on no more than 10mg at the most, esp since this is her first time. Those are all common side effects and yes they would probably diminish with a lower dosage. Just have her drink fluids and juices and she should by fine soon.

my son started on focalin xr today and it ws fine all day until it wore off. When it wore off - i dont think i have ever seen more of the effects of his ADHD come through EVER. Is this normal when a medication wears off?
