Today was my 9 year old son's first day on ANY type of medication. They put him on Focalin XR. It was great during the day and I really liked that his personality did not change at all. He was just able to stay on task more. But this evening when it wore off, all hell broke loose! It wa 10 times worse than ever before the medicine. Is this normal?

Unfortunatly yes, this does happen as the drug wears off. This is called a rebound effect and should be reported to the doctor on your next appt. This is not serious enough to warent immediate attention. As the child takes it on a daily basis the rebound effect may decrease in severity over time or may go a way entirely. If after two weeks there is no change in serverity or it gets worse then call the doctor and ask the doctor what to do next.
