I just recently went up from 10mg of dex 3 times a day to 15mg.

After I had taken it.. I felt like an odd feeling in my throat. Kinda like a lump of some kind.

Is this some kind of reaction? Is it because my throat is too dry? I have been drinking alot of water.

The lump doesnt hurt or anything.. its just feels stuck there somewhat, and I cant swallow it down, or wash it away with water.

When I took my next dose later (only my reg 10mg) I noticed the lump was still there..?

Anyone else have this? Or know why?

V.. I get that with ritalin..it's weird, like if you touch your neck right up under your jaw , under your throat it is lumpy?? I can feel it from inside and outside..

I thought it was just me, and didn't say anything LOL

hmm... no i find the lump is inside my throat right in the space where your neck meets your collar bones.

Its like a dry lump that feels strange and slightly uncomfortable. I tug at the neck of my sweater to "free" up my neck area because of the feelings of it.

even though my sweater doesnt have anything to do with.

I guess you could say it feel almost like very minor choking feeling.. as if you had a choker necklace on maybe... but its a lump.. in my throat.

It goes away after all the dex has worn off. Its weird.

Maybe its a side effect, and will go away with time? Maybe its a reaction?

Never had it before.. only since I went up from 10mg to 15mg.

1. On any other meds? (Rule that out; combination problems, too.) The fact that you just increased your dose sounds fishy, doesn't it? Most SEs happen when dosages increase, BTW!

2. Do you have trouble swallowing? (Dysphagia?)

3. Stimulants can cause muscle tightening. Could it be a muscle spasm or muscle tightening along your esophagus?

(eg I've heard of esophageal spasm b4.)

Apparently, that article says, cholinergic actions from medications can cause it. Acetylcholine alterations can mess with a lot of bodily system's proper functioning.

Talk to your doctor? I would.

Go to a doctor and ask for a diagnostic X-ray.

And may I suggest you do it soon. How long have you been using ADD drugs (including dexedrine and ritalin and so) may I ask??

thanks.

Hmm.. Im not on another medication at the moment.

I dont normally have a problem with swallowing. although when I have tried recreational drugs in the past.. I have noticed the same kinda of lump feeling in my throat, but, I suppose it wasnt as obvious then as it was this time.

Its strange.

Thanks for the replies.

I get the same thing. In my case it just feels like lots of extra mucus in my throat.

Goes away when my meds wear off.

I'm going in to hospital soon and they are going to stick a camera down my throat and have a look.

We will find out then I guess!

Gastro Esophogial Reflux Disease (I think those are the words and correct spelling) can give you a lump-like feeling in the back of your throat. There are different types of it, so you don't have to have the classic heartburn symptoms. A valve-like closure at the top of your esophogus tightens when exposed to acids from your stomach, and then won't relax, giving you a lump feeling. An increase in meds could cause an increase in stomach acids. Just a thought.

I've had acid reflux from taking dexedrine. Taking it with lots of water seems to help.

Swelling in the throat is not somthing to play around with and can be caused by a number of things from sore throat, strep, mono, thyroid problem, goiter, skin infection, measles, mumps, etc...

I would check with my doctor unless I had a cold/flu or sore throat.

I have Acid Reflux and it got worse when the medication was increased. Some days I can't take my med because it causes the Acid Reflux to act up.

I got the exact same thing with the 15mg spansules. I take two 10s now (cheaper than buying 15s and 5s apparently because it's just one kind). I haven't had it for a while, but I remember in high school it happened to me every day! I'm really glad(?) to hear other people have a similar experience. I think it may be due to the dehydration.

As for acid reflux, I have this too, but mine got WAY better after I got back on dexedrine after being off meds for a few years. I think because it made me eat less, whereas eating moderate or especially large amounts of food will make it really bad. Since getting back on the dex I don't have to pay out the nose for tons of antacids now!
