Hi everyone,
I have been on Concerta 36mg for about a month now. I haven't seen any documentation of this anywhere, but was wondering if this happens to anyone else. On days that I don't exercise, I feel like the concerta works great - I am focused and I have a good amount of energy throughout the day. On days that I do cardio in the mornings (usually 15min elliptical, 20min of running) - for the rest of the day, I feel as though I didn't take the concerta at all. I am tired and lack focus for the rest of the day. On days that I exercise, I take the concerta about 1 hour before I exercise.
Has anyone heard of anything like this? Thanks!

Hi Amy,
I've been on Concerta for a month, too (now up to 27 mg/day). I've noticed the opposite effect in terms of my own exercise. It seems to lift my mood and cut some of the tension that builds in me. But then, I'm also being treated for depression and am taking fluoxetine. When I really overdo the exercise, I do feel tired and a little listless. Maybe if you tried a lighter workout?

Hi there,
That was one detail I forgot to mention! I'm also taking fluoxetine (40mg in the morning) for depression. I don't think my workout is too hard-core...in fact, I've been doing the same one for a few months...with ritalin (10mg), it felt effortless, and didn't have any fatigue post-exercise. It seems to be related to the concerta. My psychiatrist suggested that I take the concerta after my workout, and see what happens - the only thing is, I kind of like the initial energy boost it gives me at the gym!
I tried Strattera recently, and it just made me nap all day! I wish I could find some solution that would allow me to exercise but maintain my focus for the rest of the afternoon (I'm a graduate student, so lots of reading!).

Hey Vand, I'm on adderall and I definately feel the same way. I dont workout very much during the day, but when I used to workout during the day, I couldn't concentrate for crap afterwards. And sometimes if I had a really hardcore workout the night before, the next day I wouldn't be able to focus either. And even though my physical energy is there, I feel mentally lethargic or confused.
Check out what I wrote about this the other day. I'm pretty sure we're experiencing the exact same thing.

Were you replacing your concerta or ritalin with the straterra? If you used it as a replacement then thats why you were napping.

Now that you mention it, I have noticed that happening over the last year. I didn't have that problem when I first started taking Concerta, though. But I've been on it for about 6 yrs and have noticed its not as effective as it used to be. Its an unfortuate thing, though, as taking the Concerta makes it a little easier to concentrate and exercise, but not as much as is used to. I'm going to the doc soon to talk about other alternatives.

I have been taking Concerta (72 mg every day) as a test subject since it came out when i was 6. Im in high school and do water polo wrestling and swim. I have had the same problem if i take my concerta within 40 minutes of excercise. If i take my concerta when im tired im tired the hole day and vice versus.
