View Full Version : my wife and her job
lunaslobo 01-16-07, 10:54 PM my wife works at simmons mattress comp. in the office. she has been there for 25 years. she has just been told that they are eliminated her job and moving it to altlanta. she has mabe untill june then after 25 years she will be with out a job. Nice hey. they told her she can not bump(why I really dont understand) I am really trying to be strong for her but keep getting a feeling that If i did not have all the issues with my add she would nolt need to feel so scared about what is going on. I Know I can not support us on what I make and I also know the insurance at my job is to expensive. I wish I could help her more than i am. she deserves better.
~boots~ 01-16-07, 11:37 PM will she get a redundancy payout? That may help until a nice new fresh job is found :-) If she wants one!
LAL, hugs, ...
PS what do you mean by "can not bump?"
lunaslobo 01-17-07, 09:00 PM bump means that she can not bump somone who is lower seniority, as the person who was hired two weeks ago as aposed to my wifes 25 years. I really dont think though she would like to take someone elses job.
BlessedLady 01-18-07, 12:48 AM I'm so sorry about this.. But don't beat yourself up for something that you not only had nothing to do with but you have no control over.
I'm assuming this is not a possibility or perhaps it wasn't offered as a option. But if her job is moving to Atlanta...well like I said I assume that relocating is not an option.
Does your wife know that you feel this way ? If not I think that it's really important that you share it with her.
And try and remember that in this day & time both spouses working is the norm. And being faced with the one that has the best insurance being the one to lose a job , especially after 25 yrs, thats gonna hit hard to any couple. And concerns about the cost of the treatment of ADHD. Office Visits as well as Prescriptions, does bring it to a level that those that don't have anything already requireing regular medical treatment & meds can't quite comprehend. Do you know if she will be able to get Cobra ? It is expensive & they take so long to do the paperwork that by the time it's done you usually owe a few months premiums.
I'm assumeing she can get unemployment. You might want to check with the compamy that makes her medication(s) & ask if they have any type of Patient Assistance Program for those that can't afford their meds and who have no insurance.
Keep us Posted on how things are going.

it is a hmo that we get our medication from. if I take the insurance at my work the copay is about the same so that would not change.

They have told her she will get some kind of severance pay, how much we dont know yet. They do something with the number of years she has worked for them and things like that. She can continue to get her insurance for 4-5 months at the same cost she is paying now, but then she has to pay full price. We do have options and we are in this together no matter what. she has supported me thru my many many job changes, so the least I can do is be there for her during her first one. I dont know but I was thinking it may be a little more scary for her seeing how she really has never lost a job before, while I have lost more than I really care to count. I will keep all posted and thanks so much for being here.:)
lunaslobo 07-16-07, 09:47 AM Just thought I would let every one know what has happend with my wifes job situation. She has been accepted in another place doing the same job she has now. They are willing to wait for her to start on September 4, so that she will not lose out on her severance pay. that means she will go from one job right to the other one. She also will be getting about 2 dollor an hour raise and getting about the same insurance and other benifits. boy talk about landing on her feet.:p This is such a load off her shoulders. and well mine too.
Nightwing 07-16-07, 10:37 AM Wow, what great news! I'm happy for you both. It's good to hear about good things happening to good people.
Nightwing
Glad to hear it, that's great news!
I'm never going to buy another simmons mattress again btw!
Actually, I sleep on an aero bed, because of a bad back.
If I ever get that worked out again, I'll go back to the regular mattrees.
So, may simmons suffer as a result of my injury. LOL
I am glad that that your wife got a raise, and is with a different company now. I pray she stays there as long as she wants to.

:p
during my wife's last months at her job she and I have been buying the alotted mattereses that she can get each year. Why not, we are paying only a fraction of what we would at a store. so we have one in each bedroom at home and my mom has a new one, my son has a new one at his new place, and a friend of ours has one. lol that will teach them to lay off my wife, yea, we will spend money there.
flutter-by 08-12-07, 09:31 PM So happy to hear your good news. There may be a silver lining to her not being able to bump to Atlanta. IMHO, Atlanta has hit its peak, like Houston in th 80's. I'm looking for the New Boomtown myself.

This is one of the best and happiest stories I've heard in a LONG time! Just goes to show...never give up hope! Who would have thought, low as you were both feeling a short time ago, that things would end up even better than they were before?
(You can't see it, but I'm clapping my hands with glee right now.)
lunaslobo 08-27-07, 07:21 AM thank you all for the support with this. :D My wife really deserves this new start. her supervisior is really upset that she is leaving,(she had nothing to do with jennifer leaving.) Jennifer is nervous about starting her new job, but I know she will do wonderfully. last week she was offered a receptionist job where she works now but she turned it down as it would be a step down for her. But she is leaving the door open if what simmons is doing does not work out that they can call her. Nice to have a bridge when and if you need it.
(You can't see it, but I'm clapping my hands with glee right now.) one smart alic question, how are you typing? ;) (sorry I could not resist, and thank you for that, made me smile very large.:D )
busyhermit 08-27-07, 08:25 AM NICE!! What a great positive outcome - I'm happy for you both. And NOT burning bridges? How very wise and mature - bravo!
