Yes, I'm confused & I'm blonde...it's a crazy world... LOL
Anyway........

Went for my 1st follow up after nearly 2 weeks off of Effexor XR (prescribed to me when I was dx'ed with dep/anx...later turns out I was ADHD).

While weaning off of the wicked witch of the west, Effexor:mad: , we were slowly introducing Elavil into my system.

I'd like to note a bit of encouragement: I had ONE bad spell one evening when the brain surges were rampant & I curled up in the chair & would moan without thinking about it. It was weird...and short-lived :D

So, now I'm just on Elavil .50mg/night.

Still having occasional brain surges (I like to call them "ENERGY" surges! LOL).

And, difficulty staying still & focused.

She wants me to go to counseling & stay on the Elavil, increasing the dose if we have to.

I guess I didn't know Elavil was used to treat ADHD symptoms. I told my hubby that I'll give it another week, but if it's not up to par by then, I'll call & specifically ask for something - Ritalin, Straterra, etc.

If I have that OPTION, which would you recommend? Not that she'll pick that one, but I'd like to be close; suggest something others have had success with & so forth.

I realize we are all different & what works for you may not necessarily work for me, but I'd like to get the ball rolling in that direction...

Has there ever been a poll on the meds? NOT "which med do you recommend" but maybe "which med are you taking"....??

I recommend Concerta, a sustained release form of methylphenidate (ritalin) which has the longest lasting REALISTIC profile among the stimulants (I think) and has a smooth release mechanism. I cannot say enough good stuff about Concerta, except that you may have to adjust the dose slowly to get to max dose.

I am with you...I didn't know that Elavil was good for ADHD. I know someone who has taken it and perhaps he will pop in and give you his 2C later on :) good luck!

except it doesn't work for me..:(
I am better with the fast release meds, 3 times a day
dex and ritalin :-)

good luck :p

good luck :pAre you sure you have taken Concerta? I have seen you refer to it as Ritalin LA, which is an entirely different medication from Concerta. Just curious...:)

Concerta was a big disappointment for me. I really had high hopes for it when my doc tried me on it for a month (54mg). Strange thing is that it worked great the first few days then really bad sleepiness and fatigue after that. Although the first few hours were great it really slowed me down after that. I guess that is due to it's slow release mechanism. Either that or I started way to high (or low?).

K, first of all BLONDE is a good thing! I'm crazy about my blondie wife of 20 years! :p

Anyway, I wanted to post a reply regarding Concerta. My 15 year old son has been using Concerta for appr. 3 years with great results.

He switched from 54mg down to 36mg and will probably go back to 56mg. It has made a huge difference in his school work and temperment. He can stop taking it on the weekends without any effect except the fact that he is very hyper and can have some bad personality issues.

I would ask your doc about it and go from there. You never know, it may work well for you. I have been having issues with Adderall and who knows, my doc may even want me to try it.

Good Luck!
