Ok, here is my deal. I've been taking Adderall XR for the last 4 days, and it has been absolutely phenomenal. I feel like a switch has been turned on, i can read, concentrate at work, enjoy spending time with my family -although I do get minor headaches in the evening. Oh and I have innattentive ADD, not hyperactive at all.

With that background i'm going to headed to Las Vegas at the end of next week for a 3 day industry conference. I am a big poker player, absolutely love playing (and have done well until they said we can't play online anymore). I generally haven't drank much in the last few years (did plenty in college), although I do occasionally drink for a work happy hour (oh i'm 34yrs old). These events are generally boondoggle social events, party after party, drinking all night etc..

I guess my question is 1) to what extent can I drink while taking Adderall XR(i'm only on 10mg a day) 2) sometimes at these events you pull all nighters partying and then have meetings all day long, is it dangerous to do an all nighter and then take my morning Adderall?

Any enlightenment or advice would be appreciated.

This is why doctors ask patients if they drink(also to see if they have an addictive personality). Doctors generally don't prescribe stimulants to alcoholics because it allows them to abuse alcohol more (i'm not saying you are an alcoholic). With stimulants you could potentially drink more alcohol and not notice it's effects. Depressants(alcohol) and stimulants(adderall) cancel each other out, and you end up taking more of each.

I think the bottom line is: use your adderall as prescribed and take it easy on the alcohol. Using adderall to stay up all night is probably not a good idea either.:)

Sorry, just reading between the lines.:foot:

1)I wouldn't worry about the drinking on adderall as long as you aren't an alcoholic.
2) Shouldn't be dangerous. It'll help you stay awake, but you'll crash harder (probably) later on and will need extra sleep if you do take the pill.

I appreciate the advice. I assure you i'm not an alcoholic. I really don't drink at all, ONLY when I go to these conferences which are once or twice a year. This is the first time i'm going to one while taking meds so I was concerned about the interaction and trying to figure out a course of action if I shouldn't drink (like holding seltzer with a lime and saying its a gin and tonic).

I do think I have an addictive personality which the adderall is helping with, I do not take more than perscribed, and frankly the addictive personality has really helped me get good at poker (i'm very analytical), but thats a completely different forum. LOL

and trying to figure out a course of action if I shouldn't drink (like holding seltzer with a lime and saying its a gin and tonic)What? Haha. Just tell them you're not drinking because of a medication you're on! I didn't realize peer pressure was that bad among 30-odd year olds. :p

Also, take a look at a thread I replied to the other day that answers questions about alcohol: http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36105
