Hey guys,
Currently I'm taking 20mg Ritalin ER and 10mg regular release medication. I feel pretty good and can concentrate decenly while taking the pill, but it doesn't last long at all. When it wears out, I get very tired and very un-sociable.
What are some negatives you guys have experienced when you tried Ritalin (that you don't experience with Adderall)? I have an appointment with my doctor next week and I want to try adderall. Is it not a good idea to tell the doctor straight up that I want to try adderall?
Thanks!
Dan

How long are you getting relief with your current regimen? I found that Adderall XR only lasted me 6 hours or so.

I take Adderall regular release and it last me 4.5 hours, it used to only last me 3.5 to 4 but age has a way of slowing down the metabolism.
I did not like Ritalin because I got a head ache when it took effect and rebound when it wore off. The Adderall doesn't have such a harsh on-set or rebound effect like the Ritalin did. Regular release Ritalin only lasted my 3 hours I took 20mg. I had lots of hills as valleys with it that I do not experience with the Adderall, Adderall last me a little longer.

I am a 23 year old male, I was originally on a Ritalin regiment as part of an overall ADD treatment plan, but recently was switched to Adderall. Being that I have past addiction problems, I am familiar with many drugs, mainly prescription. Through College, I had a difficult time keeping up with my fellow Cardinal at Stanford University, due to my inattentiveness. Since graduating, I was diagnosed with 'ADD' and prescribed Ritalin as the solution. I was taking 90 milligrams daily, which is a large dose, being that I am a large individual. I found the Ritalin to be more like Cocaine than a remedy. It was HARSH, as was the comedown in the afternoon. I had to get rid of this because the 'crash' was completely unbearable. I have since switched to Adderall XR, 80Mg daily. I found this to be much more effective. It helps me focus, without feeling like I am on a Narcotic, and without the comedown. If used properly, Adderall is very effective, and I strongly suggest it over Ritalin.

Adderall has a gentler on set and wears off more gradually than Ritalin.

I tried ridalin after I was first diagnosed with ADHD and it didn't work for me at all. I would crash really hard at the end of the day, and it didn;t have that much effect on my hyperactivity.
I then switched to adderall, which was very smooth, no ups or downs, but it was a little too stimulating. I would get really jumpy and shift my legs all the time.
Now I'm trying Dexedrine, which is by far the most effective of the three, but I definatley crash a little bit at the end of the day. Not too much though.
I guess it's just "different strokes for different folks"

Ritalin was working great for me, but lately I've been having more side effects and it hasn't worked as well, I was on Ritalin LA 60mg for the day and regular Ritalin 20mg in the afternoon.
My Dr. just decided to have me try Adderal XR today...I haven't filled it yet, plan to do that tomorrow, but I'll be interested to see the difference.
