I was diagnosed with ADHD last friday. My doctor gave me 10mg of Focalin XR to start and i eventually started taking 20mg. Wednesday night i completely crashed..I couldnt focus...I could barely read one sentence and understand what it was saying. The doctor said i might need to take a dose in the morning and a dose in the afternoon. My mom didn't want me on that much medication so she is having me try Adderall. Today was my first day on Adderall XR and the whole day i felt tired, lazy, unable to focus and just go out, and I wanted to sit in a room by myself. I know it was only the first day, but is this normal? How long do I have to wait? I realy just want to go back to the Focalin because I felt really good while taking it...it helped a lot. How long should I take the Adderall for? Will things change?

Although I have not gotten this effect with Adderall I did get it when I first began taking Ritalin. The effect ended when my dosage was increased, When I switched from the Ritalin to the Adderall I my doctor did a conversion formula so I was placed on an equal amount of Adderall.

I would ask my doctor about changing medications. I am sure your mother loves you and wants the best but unless she is a physician I would consult yours.

Thanks so much for your response. I defintely want to go back to Focalin XR because like I said I had wonderrful results on it. I felt it so much easier to focus and I just felt more like myself. My only concern is the doctor is going too think I am not giving this nedication enough time. I know it could take awhile for the effects to really set in or for me to get used to it? Is it worth staying on Adderral XR for a week or two or three?

I think the thing to remember is that these meds are perscribed to help YOU. If Focalin XR worked I would speak to your Doc about getting back on it. I recently was diagnosed and began with Strattera, it was absolutely awful for me. I know you are supposed to give it 4 weeks or so but after 2 days I absolutely dreaded taking it, and that wasn't helping me mentaly or physically. I recently switched to Adderall XR and it has done wonders for me. I had some minor side effects in the beggining, but I immediately knew it was working.

I guess my point is that just because it works for some people it doesn't mean it will work for you and if you are lucky enough to have found something that works I wouldn't tamper. Just my thoughts. Good luck.
