i was prescribed 3 x 20 mg adderall IR recently; i found that i couldn't sleep well on 60 mg and have just been taking 2 x 20. i'd been taking it for about 10 days. this weekend i've just gotten sick, sick, sick...i wasn't feeling good on friday night (i had taken an afternoon dose and someone commented about being "stoned-looking" which is how i felt - i'm usually just kind of calm, but not that out of it). later on that night started to feel sort of irritable and confused. have experienced a lot of flushing (but no sweating), overheating, chills, extreme weakness. i'm trying to figure out if the adderall is doing something toxic in my body or not. the only theory that i have so far is profound dehydration - i had been pretty careless about drinking water and so forth. i've spent the last 24 hours lying around shivering on various couches. the last dose that i took wore off around 11 PM and i feel somewhat headachy and weak at the moment, but no longer flushed/shivering/having chills. can anybody tell me what's up with this? i kinda feel like it might have something to do with fluid intake and carelessness about lack thereof, but i don't really know. it's kind of freaking me out, though.

i was also doing very badly with the eating part - i know this is stupid of me, but could that somehow magnify the effects to where adderall is making me dopey and quasi-feverish? this morning i don't have any meds in my system and just feel really weak and have a headache. which i hate. i'm not really sure how to go about getting strength back or if i should stop taking this stuff for the time being. i used to work out all the time (as of like..10 days ago) and the thought of that right now is bizarre.

If this is the first time you've ever taken medication for your ADHD, I am totally shocked that your doctor would have you take 60mgs per day to start!! I am not suprised you aren't feeling well. From my neck of the woods -- people are started at 10 mgs ONLY per day for a couple of weeks. Then - the doctor MAY slowly increase the doseage, or - may not.

What does your doctor say?

Please take good care of yourself, and maybe ask the MD if you could start with a lower dose and slowly build up. (Just my .02 cents)

thank you so much for responding...i actually am feeling better (and have been eating and drinking a lot more), so i'm not sure what happened. i was just kind of scared. the most i had been taking was 2 x 20 mg (of the IR) but other people have said the same thing about the dosage.

i'm sorry i've been posting so much about adderall...i didn't get much info from psychiatrist or pharmacist or other people at first and was really freaking out about side effects. anyway, it turns out we have some random bug going around my workplace that's just fever/chills/weakness/dizziness/nausea/joint pain, all that good stuff, and it seems to last 4 or 5 days. and once that cleared up no problem. it didn't resemble the flu or any disease known to man and i believed i was dying. :) so whatever...thanks for your help though.
