View Full Version : Cold fingers zoneout 01-23-07, 05:30 AM I find Concerta/Ritalin makes my fingers very cold. I can live with it by blowing on them to keep warm but is this a dangerous side effect? Crazy~Feet 01-23-07, 05:37 AM I would contact the doctor about that. That does not sounds like a common side effect, and I think that warrants further investigation. That sounds really uncomfortable :(. leana 01-23-07, 09:47 AM i am taking ritalin ir, 10mg in am,10mg at 2pm. i too noticed my hands are freezing.it must be related to the ritalin, because when i was taking adderall awile back, i was hot,and sweaty all the time. ADizzyGirl 01-23-07, 09:54 AM I have poor circulation in my hands anyway so they're always cold.. I imagine in your case it's probably related to the stimulants' tendency to constrict blood vessels, I'd talk to your doctor about it. peridot 01-24-07, 11:17 AM Yes, be sure to ask your doctor, but stimulants can decrease circulation to your extremities. qinkin 02-21-07, 08:11 AM hey, me too! but I've always had bad circulation, especially now... they'd get dead cold lol but that's b/c I'm certain, cuz' it's wintertime and all, and being inside w/o much heat around or activity is keeping them cold . Another possible reason, lack of sleep. I was currently not sleeping for 2 days at a time. I'd wake up feeling extra warm, considering I'd sleep for about 12 hours. my hand (right now) feels like icicles (someone said, OMG! that's awesome, ur hands feel like they have been chilled in an ice box) . keeping it elevated is not good for your hands. Yoga is cool, the techniques involve constantly using ur body to generate energy, it can get old, though. I need to do another class 2day. Making a firm claw with your hands helps, or spreading them out all the way, keeping them by your side, possibly mediation relaxing wise, just focus on the heart beat in ur hands no matter what u are doing. (did this while shoveling snow, I could not stand the cold anymore, then I remembered the heart beat in my hands thing, and it worked for the time I needed to finish). netsavy006 02-21-07, 08:32 AM Definatly speak to the doctor about this. It could be lower circulation in the blood vessels related to the ritalin. One thing that can help if needed is an anti-hypertensive to open up the blood vessels. Of course, speak with the doctor first... qinkin 02-21-07, 10:49 AM hmm.. ok, hypertensive? qinkin 02-21-07, 10:51 AM i need some household herbal remedies now!!! netsavy006 02-21-07, 11:06 AM The best way to find good herbal remedies is to speak to the people who run a heath food store. they guy at my local one is very knowledgeable about herbals and suppliments... qinkin 02-21-07, 12:26 PM i found some, they where celery lol. sorry if I freaked you out or something. thanks pal, the answer to that was pretty simple (duh!! :) thanks again, it's something that'll keep effecting me and others for awhile. I found (rather recently), drinking a lot of water, and eating a generous amount daily will help people who've been sufferring from hypertension/cold body. My head was even getting cold! I was kinda' excited. didn't mean to freak out anyone. the tips were very useful, thanks. netsavy006 02-21-07, 12:43 PM Feet cold, wear a hat? studies have found that you lose the most amount of heat though your head, so if you can wear a hat, it may help your cold hands... EYEFORGOT 02-21-07, 02:05 PM Vitamin E helps with circulation. impasto 06-28-07, 01:01 PM I have the same problem - my nose and fingertips get really cold. This was the case with dexedrine as well. I figure that its a very small price to pay for all the other good effects you get from stimulants. Regular excercise (yuck!) will ensure that you don't suffer any long term circulatory problems. JR1973 06-28-07, 01:35 PM Those side effects are common with amphetamines (they reduce and pinch off circulation to the extremities, including sex organs). Dry lips and mouth are problems too, due to decreased saliva excretion which coined the term "meth mouth" in which a lot of meth abusers suffer gum disease and tooth decay. I go through chap stick like crazy. Certainly possible that methylphenidate meds may also pinch off circulation which explains the cold hands (my hands are freezing cold BTW and I take Adderall XR). J qinkin 07-06-07, 05:47 PM ya, vitaminE! can't u get that from the sun? i dunno, but since going outside to tan, my circulation seems a lot better. plus, exercising regularly does help. |
