I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and I was prescribed Adderall(generic form) 10 mg twice a day. I really don't feel like the medication is working. I was wondering if this is really a small dose and probably isn't effective anyway. Does anyone have any experience being on adderall and it seemed at first it wasn't working but then after a while it really worked better.

Also, does anyone know if I am taking the best drug for the brain problems associated with ADHD or is there another drug that works better for cognitive issues that anybody knows of.

And, lastly what is the absolute highest dose that a Doctor can prescribe for ADHD in Adults of Adderall and also does the Brand name form of Adderall XR work better than the extended release.

Your doctor is probably just "introducing" your body to this drug to make sure there are no problems. Do you see your doctor again in 2 weeks from last appt or in 1 month from last appt? DEFINITELY tell your doctor that you aren't experiencing any effect or benefit from the medication . . . He/She may try you at an increased dose.

I really can't answer "what the highest Adderall dose is" that a doc will prescribe. From reading other peoples' posts on this forum, I see that this varies.

Take care,
Sue

Well, I go to my Doctor in about 2 and half weeks from now. So I guess I just need to give it time to work.

Well, do you know if the brand name of adderall works better than the generic form?

Thanks for the info, I feel a little better now, I guess I am so ready to reach an optimal dose that I am being impatient. But with anything else in life I guess it just takes time.

I'm just worried that I might be one of those who won't benefit from any medication and there's nothing I'll be able to do to decrease if not all but majority of my symptoms. The person who diagnosed me said I have a severe form of ADHD. So to be honest I am kind of scared.

This dose may be too low for you. Adderall XR (or it's generic Amphetamine Extended Release Caplets) may work better for you since you only have to take it once a day instead of 2x a day. The doctor like sloppitty-sue said may be introducing you to the drug to check for side effects and tolerability. When you see the doctor, tell him/her that this dose is too low for you and see if the doc will upper the dose. This is called Titration where you are finding the right dose for you. If adderall (or generic) doesn't work don't give up as there are other medications (like ritalin and concerta) for you to try yet. Best of luck and keep us posed.
