Hi all!

I started taking Adderall XR 30mg about 10 days ago. I love the effect during the day ... I'm much more focused, able to initiate even housecleaning activities, and have much less anxiety and more patience with my kids. I don't get as overstimulated, which is wonderful ... no more temper outbursts!

However, after it wears off (at about 5 p.m.), I'm back to my old ADD self ... low tolerance for noise (and I have 3 kids, one with severe ADHD/possibly bi-polar)! I've tried taking my dose later in the morning, but then I can't sleep.

Can anyone recommend any other non-stim med to help me cope in the evenings? It is my most emotionally charged time of day ... constant demands from all 3 kids, plus the usual dinner/homework/bedtime stuff. I get totally overwhelmed!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like you are a candidate for a booster dose of Adderall IR to get you through the evening hours. Adding a 2nd dose of XR would probably be way too much for you but adding a regular/IR dose should be perfect for you.
Stay tuned for summer of this year when the new XR formulation comes out. It has the equivalent of 3 doses in one pill which is perfect for some like yourself.

Ask your doc what to do.

I take booster doses in the evening myself but I take dexadrine. I have no problems sleeping while fully medicated however.

Oh my God Mom 23 I'm in the same situation then you. Very busy with three kids and overwhem. Taking Adderall XR at first made me able to deal with my daily activities. I was able to be more calm and not overreacting toward everything like I used to. Now it's not the same though, the 20 mg I'm taking is not as effective and when I take another 10 mg in the afternoon I feel too sleepy, which differ from you taking another dose will make you not sleep at night.

I can't wait for the new Adderall XR, I hope it will help me because now Adderall is not as effective like it used to and just the thought of increasing my dose everytime I meet my doctor is pretty scary because I don't want to be addicted to the medication.

Hope you'll find something that will help you toward the end of the day. I know how hard it is with kids and having ADD. It will be good to have a chatting room for mothers having ADD so we can give advices to eachothers because we're in the same situation.

Good Luck!
