It metabolizes on the same pathway as Adderall (an amphetamines?) One could be putting up levels of the other.

(Use CTRL-F to search for "duloxetine" and "amphetamine". You can see they are both "2D6"!)

I had that happen and had the symptoms you mention, as well as muscle tightness and muscle pain (headaches, shoulder/neck pain, etc).

Your heart symptoms need mentioning to your Doctor, too, eh? Sudden sympathetic nervous system activation like that needs to be asked about (eg I take it that you did not have it before this meds COMBO... could take a while to show up, drug action-wise.)

Have you been tested for bipolar at all? Anxiety is a common symptom. You really need to talk to your doctor.

I've had serious anxiety for about 10 years. Now I'm finding out it is probably because I'm bipolar. Stims without mood stabilizers can really aggravate bipolar. Good luck!

I agree with Jeanie! Cymbalta made me terribly hypomanic and so did stimulants. I also slept every other day and that was a sign of my cycling. The "anxiety" would then qualify as hypomania (inability to be still, pressured speech, high degree of productivity, et al) and the 15 hours sleep would qualify as the depressive cycle (most people either oversleep or undersleep when depressed).

An antidepressent without a mood stabiliser is inclined to cause mania/hypomania in bipolar patients and the same applies to stimulant medications. I have BPII and your pattern sounds exactly like mine when I was on Cymbalta! My "chronic depression and depression related anxiety" was actually bipolar disorder, but the classification of bipolar II is relatively new and many doctors make the same mistake that was made with me :) why not ask your doctor what they know about bipolar disorder? Can't hurt and if it is bipolar your life can be drastically improved!

I manage my bipolar with Lamictal now, and take an antihistamine for transient anxiety (which seems to occur when I am alone at night with my children; hubby is a trucker) and I am able to continue my stimulant regimen without the consequence of hypomania. Hypomania can look and feel like increased productivity due to the stimulants, but it is not.

anxiety is a sign of bipolar? how do you know if you have that? you have to have both highs and lows for bipolar right?

Strategies to Reduce Misdiagnosis of Bipolar Depression

Charles L. Bowden, M.D., Professor and Chairman, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.<O:p</O:p

(I paraphrased the parts of the article (it’s really long) that I found interesting and which seem to apply most to me personally, because of my treatment resistant depression and anxiety)<O:p</O:p

“The author discusses complexities in the diagnosis of bipolar disorder, especially in distinguishing bipolar from unipolar depression.

Patients with bipolar depression and bipolar manic patients had much higher scores on extraversion, novelty seeking, and being less judgmental.

Depression—and indeed all mood episodes—in the postpartum period are more likely to reflect an underlying bipolar disorder (20,21).

Depression occurring on a seasonal basis is more likely to be within the bipolar spectrum.

Some patients with bipolar II disorder have even milder manic excursions than described above. These persons generally have hyperthymic temperaments, evidenced by high energy, remarkable capacity for productive work, impatience, and a tendency to be easily annoyed.

Anxiety disorders often co-occur with bipolar disorder (38) and, when prominent, can mask evidence of bipolar disorder.

Anxiety is an intrinsic symptom of manic states. "

Who Knew? Not me for sure! :o

Some statistics rate the comorbidity between bipolar disorders and ADHD as high as 90%...something to think about.

Thanks alot everyone your advice helped alot. I went to my doctors today, he lowered my cymbalta dose down to 30mg. He wants me to try that for two weeks and see how I feel. I'm def not biopolar though, my friends mom is so if i was he would know. He also upped my dosage of my ativan(for anxiety) until everything balances out and we see what happens with the cymbalta. But yea still sleeping every other day, today being the day i stay awake seeing how its 4am and all lol.. not that i mind it cause i get alot more done at night with homework and all.

I def agree with you on that, ever since the adderall my cymbalta has been making me nuts, so we will see what happens in a week.
