Hi everyone,

I've been recently diagnosed with ADD and I've been taking Dexedrine for almost a month now, with amazing results. I am a physics gradstudent and, in these last couple of weeks I have enjoyed my research more then I have ever been.

But I also teach part time at the local community college and tonight I had my first class after the winter break. I took 20mg short acting Dexedrine about half an hour before a 7pm class (I take 40mgs a day, but usually my last dosage is at about 4pm).
I had a HORRIBLE experience!

Normally, Dex really calms down my racing thoughts and keeps me very focused on the task at hand. My area is computational physics so I spend most of the time in the lab at the computer. As I mentioned, Dex makes this kind of work extremelly enjoyable.

But standing in front of the class and talking was completely different! I've been teaching for four years now, and I am usually pretty confident in front of the class and like to interact with the students with a lot of questions and jokes. Tonight, I was extremely insecure and apprehensive, I had a lump in my throat, my mouth was Sahara dry and I kept looking over my shoulder, unsure if I am boring people or not.

I cut the three hour lecture in half, telling students how I didn't wanna overload them with material in the first week. In reality, I just wanted the nightmare to end.

I wanted to hear from other ADD instructors who are taking this kind of medication, and whether they have the same experience with Dex or Adderal. Thanks.

I would wait and see, especially because you are having such positive results with the Dex. You are human and it might have been a bad night?

Dex can cause some anxiety. When I take Ritalin, I am extremely calm and the anxiety I have is gone, however, with Dex, I do notice some background anxiety that If I am not careful to keep in check.. can get the better of me.

I would suggest not taking it untill after you are finished teaching, if that will work out for you.

Since it works for you in many other ways, thats great. Just see if u can wait to take it after.. or take it before teaching so that it starts to wear off by the time your class begins.

Good luck, keep us informed!

I teach, and teaching is one of the main areas where I've noticed Dex really helping me. I'm more on the ball and quick to respond to questions or keep control of the class and flow of information. My brain doesn't get tired as fast.
