hi,i was wondering if phentermine is ever prescribed for adhd. i remember being on it years ago, after my first child, it not only helped me loose weight, but got me motivated, happy, and back to work. one phentermine would last all day and all night. it became a daily part of my life well over a year, until the doctor would no longer prescribe it.i remember telling people it worked like an antidepressant for me.the ritalin im on now, i guess is simular, but the phentermine was better for weight loss i think.i was wondering why more docs dont prescribe it for adhd, its not a schedule 11, at least i dont think, which means, it should be less addicting, and you could get refills! anyone know anything about phentermine for adhd?

Treatnig adhd would be an off label use for this drug. Phentermine seems to have all of the problems that stimulants have and only a few of the advantages. It acts more strongly on norephenephrine than it does on dopamine, so it is probably not as effective for ADHD as stimulantants are. The fact that it is habit forming is not a plus either. That may account for why it is not used widely.
