does anyone have experience with periodic changing medications from dual reuptake inhibitors to noradrenic/dopamine/seratonin pumps(amphetamines) to prevent structural brain chages and depedence from continuous use of one substance?
this would seem a viable way to prevent the brain from building tolerance and thwarting the theaputic effects of any one drug including addiction. variety in drugs at times may be as important as variety in diet.
I have plenty of experience changing these drugs up periodically, but I never did it for the technical reasons you describe as your reasons for wanting to change them up. My experience has been that sometimes my reaction to these things has been so far off from what I was expecting my reaction to be, that I have learned to just go with whatever (my Dr approves) is able to provide the best relief of my symptoms compared to whatever is being suggested as something that will provide me relief of my symptoms. The reason I say that is because for some reason the amphetamines seem to have very different effects for me.
For instance, Adderall causes me to experience pronounced sedation, compared to Dexedrine which allows me to experience plenty of stimulation. I also experience a very mild sedation from Desoxyn. I wish I knew why I experience the paradoxical reaction to one form of amphetamine compared to another, but nonetheless I do.
None of the other stimulants effect me in that way at all. Methylphenide is overly stimulating for me. Dexmethylphenidate is wonderfully stimulating for me. Caffeine, and all the other OTC stimulants are the same as what most people would call stimulting, and several years ago prior to being diagnosed with ADD when I was a late teenager I foolishly experimented with cocaine and meth a few times at parties (both of which were/are illegal so please do not consider this an endorsement) and both of those were stimulating to me too.
I guess my point here is that even though these drugs might have specific actions that you can expect based on clinical reports. It's really something that you will not know for sure until you try the drug in question and then see how it effects you. Hope this helps.
PS I have never experienced addiction from any of the stimulants other than caffeine, and it was purely a physical addiction.
