I found a thread for ADHD but making a twist on it and making a new one for Asperger's. If there was a cure for asperger's would you take it? From my experience, I would not take the "cure". to cure it would make me a totally different person and I like who I am. I wouldn't want to change for the world. I like being an Aspie...

I wouldn't but I think it would need to be left to each individual to decide what they'd want for themselves (e.g. I wouldn't condemn anyone who chose to take it).

I wouldn't either but I was asking what would you do in this situation. I was wondering if you'd take the cure or not?. The results of the poll are privite so I won't know who votes either way...

Just letting you know you don't have to be an Asperger to vote on the poll...

I dont understand why you wouldn't want rid? I was today pretty much told i had it. Ive always thought i had ADD and i still think i have, my attention span is tiny.
I saw a leaflet in the waiting room about some syndrome, i folded it up to read later as i noticed from what id read it sounded familar. Then an hour later the doctor said he thought i had asperger syndrome, i then pulled the leaflet back out and i was the very same syndrome i  Every single symtom applyed to me.
Id be scared of having it cured but how anyone can say they like or are proud of it suprises me. Wrecks me life completely.

Sorry to see that you feel that way Danielb. I use to want the asperger's to go away and be "normal" but after being treated with medication and having 6 mo of psychothreapy, I've been feeling better and feel to "cure" it would mean to change my personality. People love me just the way I am (even the girls... lolz...) I don't think I ever want to change especially for them...
Best of luck Danielb, and keep us updated on your progress...

Each to their own choice, but YES, it would be gone in a flash if I could press a button to obliterate it out of my personal existance.
Netsavy006... you can have my AS to go with your AS as you like it so much and leave me as an NT who is much less likely to screw up everything I ever start. No such luck for me hey. No one in my life makes ANY allowances for me, neither do they make any attempt to understand anything about me. They all tell me I should be normal... I know there is nothing that I can do about it, but I could do without the hassle.

well since most cures are related to drugs or surgery, or whatever, I would simply state no, cause of living with it for 20+ years would pretty much crash my system down to be exact. Im my opinion there really is no cure to it unless you add personal development and social gatherings among others who have as. The problem with it is it depends on age, like right now at age 27 it's nearly impossible for me to go to any type of social gatherings, just cause I'm been out of cure and out of learning of personal development for so long due to the various symptoms I experienced heavly the last 5 years or so.
now in my opinion I would start personal development and motivational type books, tapes and siminars when I was 14 yrs old which would eventually lead to social gatherings. Now I know I probably would get (boo-ed for saying cause people who dont understand what it's about unless you have asbergers, or want to become someone great,) but Alticor/Quixtar inc etc helped me big time dealing with asbergers, it gave me a reason to never give up and feel good about myself and would suggest that you if you havent tried it to check it out. in my opinion it's like going to school, the cost is less then dealing with the hardship of schools and cost of school material. Just my opinion, just dont care what others think :0).
