How do you know your just tried a dose which is too high? Meds often have side effects which go away, but are there some uniform characteristics of an ADHD medication dose being too high?
Things like this have happened -- irritability -- severely withdrawn -- lack of interest in listening to people talking -- lack of absorbption of information when reading.
Are these things indicative of your ADD drugs being too high? lol I guess huh

McH, when I tried 3 x 5mg dex, I was like a blowfly.....it lasted for an hour or so....I was super hyper..it was horrible..
I guess 15mg at that time was too much

HA. QUITE the opposite! 5 mg is nothing! or did you mean on single dose of 15mg? if dexedrine made you hyper that meant it wasn't enough, you take more till it keeps your mind slowed. And especially if it only lasted for an hour or so!

ah ha...maybe thats why the dex/ritalin mixture works...I thought I was like that becasue I took 3 x 5mg and it was TOO much..duh..
I'll try it over the weekend, 3 dex and no ritalin and let you know :-)
ps..you'd better remind me though
if dexedrine made you hyper that meant it wasn't enough, you take more till it keeps your mind slowed. And especially if it only lasted for an hour or so!
I'm not so sure there are any blanket statements that apply to everyone concerning the way Dexedrine works in the ADD brain. We each tend to respond a little differently, and in some cases we respond a lot differently.

I'd maybe say in general, a too-high dose of a stimulant would be one where you have a jittery, sped-up feeling that doesn't diminish completely after the first couple days on the dose. When the negative side effects are increased and the good effects like ability to focus are diminished.
I was more irritable and tired than usual when my dose was too low.
But as Lars said, everyone responds differently to meds. It's hard to make a generalization with psychiatric meds when everyone's experiences are different and so much of the medication process is just careful trial and error.

I'm not sure if there are any uniform signs to look for but just make sure to be careful and you will be ok...
