Hi there;

With the help of some who responded to my earlier post about Adderall vs. Dexedrine, I now know that Adderall is more likely to stimulate the peripheral nervous system (PNS) than the Dexedrine.

As such I had a question I'm not sure is really answerable...

Normally when I (try to) read, I find my eyes bounce around the words/sentences/page to the point where I find it VERY VERY difficult to read. I usually end up putting down whatever it is I am trying to read (unless it is very simple) after only a few minutes in complete frustration!!

I've been taking Adderall for a little over a week now. I am finding, unfortunately, that it is actually making the 'bouncy eye' thing WORSE (very frustrating!) and I am finding it almost more difficult to read! My eyes are bouncing all over the place now when I try to read something while on the Adderall.

I'm wondering if this could have anything to do with the fact that Adderall can cause PNS stimulation? Please note that I am VERY VERY sensitive to medications.

Regardless of whether or not this is PNS stimulation or some other side effect, is it likely to go away with time? I suppose only time will tell, but it is very unnerving right now.

Thanks!

That's a really good question. I wish I was able to answer it, but I am not qualified to answer it.

I would suggest that you describe this to your Dr and see what he/she thinks. Your Dr has many options available to him/her. For instance, it may be that you need a dosage adjustment concerning the Adderall, or it might be a reaction to a generic version that might not occur with another generic or the brand name, or it could be that your Dr may suggest that you consider another drug.

I do not want to make you feel bad, but it took me several years to find the right drug, and then it took a little while longer to find the right dose.

When I started my journey of finding a medication after being diagnosed with ADD it was 1992, and there was no internet (at least in the public domain), and I was very limited in my ability to learn about alternatives that were available to me and my Dr at that time. Compared to nowadays when people can simply get online and access vast amounts of information concerning these matters within seconds.

I would be willing to bet that it will not take you anywhere near as long to find the right medication as it took me to find. Just try and be patient and trust that with your Dr's help that you will be able to find the right fit eventually.

I agree with Lars -- definately check with your doctor. If you have any history of tics/Tourette type things stimulents can worsen that. I'm not sure if your bouncing eye problem falls in that area or not, but it's obviously a problem. I wouldn't count on it going away by itself in time -- it could get worse. Talk to a doctor!:)

Take care,
