I'm truly annoyed by the overly sarcastic person. Especially when they aim their wit at me. Do you have problems taking jokes or responding to someone who is witty or just consantly tries to outwit? When someone teases or jabs at you do you just respond with silence like I do? I cannot stand it when someone has a smart mouth comment for everything. I think it's annoying.

Here's the deal. My b.fs roomate has a girlfriend who is snide about most things. I'll admit she is witty but I don't know what is underneath all that smart mouthin. I'd rather hold a serious conversation with someone and get to know them on a level of real intellect. It seems like she judges me just because I don't have quick comebacks. She really cannot top my boyfriend but he has learned to hold his tounge around me. I guess in a way I just answered my own question. My bfs got a smart mouth so she's probably just acting in defense but I don't like it when people sit there and make witty remarks to eachother. It's like listening to two snakes hiss at eachother. It's really annoying. What should I do? What should I do the next time someone tries their sarcasm on me? Or what happens if I get in the middle of a "wit fit" between my boyfriend and his roommate or her girlfriend? I don't want to seem boring because I don't respond or change the subject. I think I will just tell them flat out to "shut it".

Hey that's not fair... I am sarcastic to be rude to someone who I perceive as intrusive or condescending, nitpicky

Don't worry I'm not rude or condesending. I just get ripped on alot and instead of responding with sarcasm or whatever I just ignore it. I know sarcasm is usually a response to snide remarks. I guess I just get sick of listening to my boyfriend and his roommates girl friend go back and forth with the stupid comments. It's not a jealousy thing it really is just like listening to two snakes hissing back and forth to eachother it's annoying. Not to mention I think sarcasm and joking in general is just a way to avoid telling someone how you really feel.

I have the opposite problem, I'm overly sarcastic without ever realizing it. I have friends tell me how much I hurt them with what I say but then, they never tell me when it happens so I never remember what I've said.
