Hey Ya'll! Right now my doctor has me on focalin xr. I've only been recently diagnosed (about a month ago) and we tried straterra first but it was awful and I could barely get motivated enough to get off the couch...and I hurt all over but that's a completely different story right there. But I'm on focalin xr now and I can't explain it but I just don't really like it. There aren't any awful side effects but I just don't like it. So I'm thinking about talking to my doctor next week at the follow up visit about switching meds. I've heard a lot of people say that adderall is really affective and works like nothing else...Would it be wrong for me to ask the doctor if I can try adderall before I get settled on a medication? I hate asking doctors for any kind of medication...makes me feel like druggy...I used to have a really bad migraines and even then I felt awkward asking for a mild pain medication. But that is beside the point. Should I ask my doctor to try something different? Or should I just stick with what he's prescribed me for now?

Ultimately it is his/her decision whether they want to switch to anything else. I would suggest that you even though you claim that you can't explain why you do not like the Foaclin XR, that it would be to your benefit to try and come up with a description of what it is that you do not like about. I am sure your Dr will appreciate as much information as you can provide him/her about whether the therapy they have prescribed for you is helping or not.
I understand about how asking for a certain drug may make you feel like a "druggy," but it's important to remember that drug addicts get migraines too, they also sometimes have ADD, and as a result they need these controlled medications too sometimes. Your Dr is very aware of drug seeking behavior, and I would suggest that you let him/her know that you are hesitant to ask for this drug or for that drug based on how hesitant you are concerning appearing as a "druggy." The more honest you are with your Dr will only deepen the intimacy of the Dr patient relationship which can be a lifelong relationship for so many people with this dissorder.
