View Full Version : stratterra and alcohol? Tarp 02-14-07, 09:24 PM Anybody noticed any different effects? I think I can actually drink more and not hurt as much the next day. Is this possible? Tarp kristin.m 02-14-07, 09:47 PM You're not supposed to drink alcohol when taking strattera because it can increase the likelihood of liver damage. My pdoc told me that a glass of champagne at a wedding every so often is fine... regular drinking is definitely not. Few people have had liver damage as a side effect, but it's better to be safe rather than sorry, no? Quizonnil 07-18-07, 06:59 PM I was looking to post a thread similar to this... I have been taking Strattera for about 2 years now and I take 60mg. My prescription was slowly ramped up to 80mg until I my friends kept commenting on my behavior when drinking. I became more irrational and actually got into verbal arguments! This is not something that I would usually do and one of my best friends even commented that I was, "Out of Character". I spoke to my physician about this and other issues i was having with the high dosage. I also had mono at the time which made me even more irritable. Either way after returning to my lower dosage and being aware of my abnormal behavior I have not had other spells similar to before. Okay, so along with that and strattera I am confused about alcohols effects as you are withdrawn from strattera? So yesterday I was unable to take my usual dosage of strattera in the morning because I have to get the refil!! I went about my usual day (I also take adderall)... hoping to get a refil today. Last night after work while going out for a usual night at a comedy improv night I felt completely different then I usually do on the other nights going in the same crowd and same atmosphere. I felt like I became intoxicated extremely quickly in comparison to the other Tuesdays and acted much more irrational than usual (nothing bad happened, but it felt really different; very uncomfortable). Does not taking Strattera when you are use to taking it everyday actually change the affect that alcohol has? Are the withdrawal symptoms of strattera somehow associated with your response to alcohol? Scuter Puter 07-18-07, 08:15 PM Oh wow! I did not know that. I am glad you brought this thread up. I don't drink at all hardly, but my sister and brother in law came up about a few weeks ago, and I ended up drinking a couple of beers with them. (Now I haven't drank in years....and here I was drinking) So about 3 beers later...I felt....stupid. I dunno if it was the alcohol or what it was, but I became intoxicated quickly. Ok....that last statement sounded really stupid LOL. Of course it was the alcohol. I mean I don't know if it was my tolerance level or the Strattera. But....since now it has been brought up about liver damage....I doubt if I will ever drink again. Heck there is too much out there that ALREADY causes liver damage lol. Tarp 07-18-07, 10:18 PM Well I am not really concerned about the liver damage, I think every prescription drug has that warning on it, Drinking is hard enough on the liver, personally I'm not worried about it. I am elite triathlete and know my body pretty well, for some reason with strattera alcohol is metabolized differently. pedalpounder 07-18-07, 10:25 PM Nothing in the Strattera documentation mentions you shouldn't drink. Tarp 07-18-07, 10:28 PM Nothing in the Strattera documentation mentions you shouldn't drink.I just shot beer out my nose reading that, lol does it say anything about that? I.E. side effect? Scuter Puter 07-18-07, 10:45 PM Geez guys, SHHHHHH!!!! Ixnay on the drinkay with stratteraray. I was looking for an excuse NOT to drink with my sister. She has this weird thing about feeling bad because she is drinking and I don't. (Says it makes her feel like shes not being a responsible adult when I am being a responsible adult) Dunno why, but somehow she ended up making me drink that one night by that rationale..... pedalpounder 07-18-07, 10:51 PM Sounds like you're onay hereway earnay eingbay anay coholicalay . I wouldn't worry too much about drinking a bit once in a while. Scuter Puter 07-18-07, 11:16 PM :D LOL you know whats so bad.... I had to go to a Pig Latin translator (I googled it, and it existed!!!) to decipher what you said!!!! :faint: I try not to worry so much, but I have three kids. My logic: The ONE time I would decide to drink or get a little tipsy, would be the ONE time that one of my kids would have to go to the hospital, then the people at the hospital would think I am a bad drunk parent. (Now the kids would already be at a grandparents house, and the grandparents are capable of taking care of my kids, but thats my logic) I swear I came up with that all by myself. Paranoid much??? lol Tarp 07-18-07, 11:24 PM :D LOL you know whats so bad.... I had to go to a Pig Latin translator (I googled it, and it existed!!!) to decipher what you said!!!! Funny I used my beer goggles and it worked to! You say google I say goggle, lol exfarmer 07-27-07, 06:19 PM Does a Margarita-a-day count as drinking, cause if it does I'm screwed. I ain't a going to quit my Margarita. :D auntchris 08-17-07, 12:31 AM Dont do it.! No alcohol. pedalpounder 08-17-07, 04:58 AM Dont do it.! No alcohol. What, in general or on Strattera? I drink wine or beer several times a week. Didn't give me any short-term effects. Long term, who knows. |
