I was just diagnosed with Add (innatentive type II) Which explains a lot and caused a moment or two of relief. However, I have my first psych visit with my doc and a therapist coming up and for the life of me, no matter how hard I try. I am not making any headway. I am on meds now. Adderal (10mg to start once a day, mood stabilizer and Loproxen for anxiety and depression) And I have a Son who was diagnosed with ADHD four years ago so you would think I would have something in this noggin by now. I am just not sure what to bring up to make the most of the therapy. Anyone else out there have this issue too and how did you handle it? I am also not sure that the Med's are working. The anxiety and depression seek fairly under control but I am still a major mess in all the standard ADD areas. When I first started the Meds I had a really good couple of days but now it's like.. What meds? I'm on meds? really? Is this normal, does this indicate I need a higher dose or what? What should I be watching for? How can I tell if treatment is working and how should I go about the therapy? Help!

The best person to speak to about your medications is the doctor. You may need to increase, decrease, alter, or change medications. That decision is best left to you and a doctor. In terms of the therapy, I would descuss anything that comes to mind, like your med issue. I would tell the therapist if i was seeing a problem with my medications, because a therapist is partially trained to know how to act in major circumstances. Also, I would let the therapist know what stresses are going on in your life right now, and you and the therapist can make a goal chart on what your expecations are by the end of therapy. This is time that you set with the therapist so make sure to tell the therapist any problems you may be having so you can work with the therapist on getting them resolved as best as possible. Remember that nothing in life is perfect so you can't expect full resolution every time, but there are happy mediums (and great gains/strides) that can be made from therapy and meds. Best of luck...

Great post Andy!
I did this a few times in the past, on the request of the school I was attending, job, etc.
The therapist deals with ADD people, so they know your thoughts are going to bounce from one subject to another.
They can help you focus, and get your problems laid out.
You go in and lay out what you have a problem with, and then they will help you with them.
You could make a list if you want, and take that with you.
I do that a lot when I go to the Dr, so I don't forget anything.
