Personally, I have been to a Psychiatrist, a Psychologist, and my family doctor (in reverse order) specifically regarding diagnosing and treating my ADD.

So far the Psychologist was the best experience among them. They, however, are not able to prescribe drugs.

Everything I have read/experienced says it is more important to find a professional with direct training and experience in ADD than a specific kind of professional.

Also note that a Pediatrician counts as a family doctor for diagnosing kids.

Welcome to the forums, and good luck :D

Doll, I'm afraid I hit the wrong key and my message disappeared before I was through.
I have written a book on these 5 causes and cures for ADHD but it hasn't been published yet. Feel free to write for more info.

NWLinda,

It would be much more appropriate, and in fact, more helpful and educational for all of us, if you would share some of your knowledge in the Forums when responding to a post.

You are a new member to the forums, and until folks get to learn all about you, it is sometimes easier for us to share in a common and comfortable environment that we trust.

I look forward to hearing all about this!

Thanks!

A psychologist with experience in diagnosing ADD as a specialty is preferred. They will ALL say they are able to do this, ask for this ones that are specialists, and ask who are the psychologists in town that are considered the best at this. Be very specific and assertive and you will be able to determine after asking a few professionals, which names keep popping up. That will be your answer.
