roly poly 02-19-07, 11:11 PM I'm horrible with remembering names and don't see that I'll ever find a cure. I finally getting brave enough to admit to the person that I forgot their name and ask what it is. The worst that has happened didn't even last long is they get a little upset or look a liitle hurt. I think they were just upset or hurt until they realized that there was nothing more behind my forgetting then just my shortcoming.
Join the club.
Hand out name tags "my name is....." LOL
I do this a lot, and for a time, I'm in politics. (I see faces I recognize but sometimes can't recall the name because I don't see them that often)
This is one area where you NEED TO REMEMBER NAMES! LOL
Repetition is the only way I've found.
I work with 200 + people each day, and I know every person on sight.
It takes me a few weeks to learn a name before I have it.
Once I learn it, then I work on "interests" that person has.
In case I need advice, etc.

Wesley RD 04-26-07, 02:40 AM I am so glad that I have found that I am not the only one who forgets names. It is not that I don't know a name, it is that I go into panic mode and can't remember just about anything:
bank pin
names
where I bought something
Once I am out of the "on the spot" pressure, I remember what I was trying so hard to at the time of panic.
I will forget a name and then once I am alone I will go through the alphabet a few times and remember the name.
I was in the store today and was asked to enter my bank pin number when checking out and I froze up and couldn't remember it until an hour later.
This is such an embarrassing problem. I am trying to find a way to help myself with this recall issue. I have been to the doctor and had an MRI. It came back normal. The doctor says I am too young to consider Alzhiemers and feels it is more related to the ADD.
I would like to hear if anyone else has this same exact issue and if you have found anything to help?
I do want to also encourage others out there. God made us unique and special. We may have issues with some things, but we are highly intelligent, award winning, highly sought after type people. I have won many awards at work - ask me why? I have no idea - it must be the hyper focus part of ADD, once I get my brain on something I don't quit until I have achieved.:)
lunaslobo 04-26-07, 07:27 AM I am too young to consider Alzhiemers actully I think this condition that I get is medically refferd to as sometimers, sometimes i remember sometimes I dont. or C.R.S. Cant remeber .... but seriorsly i have found a way to save face when i run into somone i cant remeber thier name and I want to introduce my wife I just say, this is my wife Jennifer, and leave it open. I have found that 9 times out of ten he or she will jump in and say glad to meet you my name is.... hope this helps it has me. (btw this is my wifes suggestion not mine. I think she got tired of not knowing who we are talking to.)
Most of the time, when I meet someone for the first time, I'll ask him his name. I'll repeat it - "Joe, right?" and try to address him by name several times in the conversation. Just to be careful, though, I always throw in "I guarantee you I'll forget your name at least three times before I remember it, so don't take it personally." I do it with a smile and a laugh. Nobody's been offended yet, and sometimes we end up talking about other things we forget, about unusual names, related stuff like that, and it puts us on a very friendly level. I have always tried to be upfront with people if I know something might become an issue later on - so that it doesn't become an issue.
Crazygirl79 04-26-07, 08:05 PM I'm usually ok with first names...but I can be really forgetful on people's last names and the only time I really forget someone's name is when I don't see them for several years.

pedalpounder 04-26-07, 09:39 PM I can totally empathize here. This happens to me EVERY single time. Really, EVERY single time I meet someone new:
Someone: "Hi, I'm Steve"
ME: "Nice to meet you"
I never commit the name to memory. 2 1/2 seconds later, it's gone.
As for not remembering the name of someone you've known for a long time, I do that all the time. I do it to the point that I've learned never to call people by name. In particular, I have a cousin I've known my entire life and I always forget his name. I have 37 cousins and I remember all their names except this one. so weird.
One time while I was getting my learners license, they asked me what my DADS name was, and I couldn't remember. Talk about emberassing!!!
