On page B8 in today's (2/20/2007) Newsday, there is a great article on current psychoanalysis.

here's the title:

Psychoanalysis re-interpreted: To help keep Freudian therapy alive, reseachers are using modern science to measure the process

It was interesting to me being a psychology major and learning about past psychoanalysis.

I would type the article up for you but unfortunatly the article is over 2 pages long...

There are different types of psychoanalysis. Some are just plain useless, IME.

e.g. let the client talk in circles and listen. Tell them "time is up. see you next week." at the 50 minute mark.

As for Freudian analysis, it is really irrelevant for a lot of people. All that Oedipus and Electra complex stuff is just blaming people for bad stuff that happened to them. Blah.

I tend to like the anti-oppressionist or people-empowerment (feminist) models that Social Workers tend to do with people dealing disabilities or systemic discrimination.
