I'm trying to find out what makes us tick. Why some of use are so different and if there are certain traits that are completely ADD or ADHD. I've listed what I believe is a specific trait for each type below. I would like to take a pole. Please list what type you are and which of those traits are or are not you. If you are inbetween types please list that also.

ADD / Dreamyness / Theta Brainwaves
Completely Spaced out
Low test scores
Hyperfocus

Please Note that these traits should be listed for how you are when you are not taking medication.

I've only half a formal diagnosis (it's complicated), so I'm not sure how much help I'd be!
I seem to have my hands in both pies-- and it's pretty much a 50/50 split.

ADHD
High test scores
Fairly good memory
Procrastination
Temper explosions
Eats most anything (too true, unfortunately!)

ADD
Completely Spaced out
Hyperfocus
constantly losing things
Lack of social skills

I am either both outgoing, quick witted socially or withdrawn depending on the situation.

Your ADHD model seems to lean towards bipolar, while the ADD model, towards Asperger's/SID.

Angela,

Angela,

Where did you find this list, or what resources did you use in it's compelation?I would like to know this myself. The information presented does not jive with what I have learned about ADHD (and its all ADHD, no matter which type it happens to be, ADD is just shorthand for those of us who dislike writing and typing :D and wish to shorten it a bit).

That being said:

Female
Outwardly Aware (sometimes)
High test scores
Fairly good memory (for some things)
Procrastination
Temper explosions
Enjoys confrontations
Eats most anything
Outgoing (sometimes)
Quick witted socially
Over compensates to fit in with society (or I try to anyway)
Completely Spaced out (sometimes)
Hyperfocus
constantly losing things
Avoids confrontations (just because I enjoy them does not mean that I don't try to avoid them)
Super sensitive smell, taste, touch, or hearing, even clairvoyant
extremely poor memory (for some things)
Never fits in with society (now that depends on whom I am trying to fit in with doesn't it??)

This makes me the combined type, which I was as a child and continue to be although diagnosed as PRIMARILY inattentive because the issues inherent to inattention are what cause me the most grief in life. Why is the combined type not a category in this little quiz?

I'm female...

Outwardly Aware
High test scores
Fairly good memory (specifically, very good long-term memory esp. for facts and environmental detail -- my short-term working memory is what's a problem, hence the "why did I walk into this room?" phenomenon)
Procrastination
Temper explosions
Enjoys confrentations (sometimes -- I like to argue & debate intellectually; I don't like just fighting and being nasty)
Eats most anything
Outgoing
Quick witted socially
Over compensates to fit in with society

Partially spaced out -- I do sometimes just get lost inside my mind
Hyperfocus
extremely poor memory -- see above, it's short-term working memory that is poor.
constantly losing things
Avoids confrontations --
Super sensitive smell, taste, touch, or hearing -- I don't know that I'm clairvoyant, but I am very sensitive to smell and hearing

Never able to fit in with societ-y - I *feel* like I don't fit in; possibly because I feel like my outward persona is in part an act
Mainly female -- I'm ALL female!

I only labeled them ADD/ADHD for a quick easy differentiation (Sp)
I am as inatentive as it gets I am the lower list basicly.
I married the other list and we had a child.
Now that child is having trouble in school. Kidergarten.
We always knew I had ADHD I assumed she had what I have but there are differences in that she is not completely spaced like I am. She is more active. Her father has not been tested but no claims that he thinks he is. Nobody seems to believe that my daughter could have ADD because they see ADD as basicly being ME and because she is not a zombie like me and is very social unlike me and is jittery unlike me. They say she can't have it. After allot of research I believe her father does have it also. Those things I put under ADHD describe him to a T. But she is not just like him either. I'm trying to figure out what she is and how to handle it. I'm at a stand still with her teacher and am going nuts because nothing I try seems to help. Its impossible to prove to people what I see when there are so many contadictions about ADHD behaviors that they all love to bring up.

Somehow I manage to have opposite traits simultaneously. I manage to get 102% exam scores, and Fs too! Sometimes, in the same class. For some things my memory is great, for others, I can't remember sh*t. It just depends. Also, depending on my mood, I can be completely social or completely withdrawn.

So, in the end, I'm not really sure you can categorize everyone into one or the other group, even on specific traits.

As pure AD/HD-IA as someone can get. Unfortunately, it was totally unhead of when i was growing up and didnt even make it into the DSM untill i was out of high school.
