DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE MEDICATION STRATTERA HAS EVER BEEN LINKED TO NIGHT TERRORS:soapbox:

I'm sure. Norepinephrine is a flight or fight neurotransmitter.

I'm sure. Norepinephrine is a flight or fight neurotransmitter. That might explain why Ive been so jumpy lately. lol

I havent heard directly anything about night terrors specifically however when you alter the chemical levels of the brain, I could see that as being a potential side effect. How often does it happen? Any history of it before taking Strattera? Are you taking anything else with Strattera? What time of day do you take your dose?

I've never read anything on the link between the two or heard of anything like that, but I will tell you that when my daughter started taking Strat three years ago, I did see a big increase in the night terrors. For about a year, it was a normal occurance to hear her calling me at least two nights a week. I would go into her room and she would be sitting up in bed and be totally petrified. I would have to sit with her and try to get her awake and out of the state that she was in, so she could go back to sleep peacefully.

In the past couple of years, the night terrors have become something that only happens when she has a fever, or if she is dressed too warmly. They probably only happen 4 or 5 times a year now. She still takes Strattera now, so if the medication was the problem, maybe it was one of the side effects of getting used to it...I don't know.

It didn't happen to me but for me, strattera made my agitation worse.

I've been having some strange dreams that I do remember part of (or at least that I had them anyway). Last night my husband said I woke him up kicking and screaming like I had a night terror and I was trying to get away from someone. I don't remember this at all though. Which I suppose is good in a way. I've never had these sorts of dreams before where I physically kicked and screamed. I have had nightmares before though. I'm on 80mg Strattera... stopped taking the .5mg Tenex after 4 doses because I couldn't handle the side effects. I think the Melatonin I take to combat the insomnia helped me stay asleep and not remember it.

It has the effect of altering dreams, making them more vivid and memorable - in my case it has also increased the incidence of night terrors.

I don't know about night terrors exactly, but my dreams definitely became more vivid, including nightmares. There were times I would wake up startled, breathing heavily, and generally acting like I had just jumped off a cliff. It only happened occasionally though, so it didn't bother me.

The first week I was on Strattera, I didn't sleep more than three hours a night, but I frequently woke terrified from a dream. The whole bit...afraid to move, breathing heavy, heart beating like crazy. This has declined in frequency as I'm getting more used to the dose.

I love the dreams that i get from it , you can see every detail, down to the teath and of the claws of the bear. if you start on strattera start on a low dose first, if your an inattentive you probably have a low tollerance to medication, start out with 10 and do that for three days then go to twenty for 2 days and slowly work your way up to your target amount. this lessens the side effects. any way i hope you make it good luck

I've been on strattera for about 4 weeks at 80mgs and i've noticed many side effects including the scariest -- constant nightmares. I would wake up all sweaty and feeling lost and confused about the dream I just had, which seemed so real that makes me wonder if it actually happened.

I did some research and I found out that Strattera can acutally cause increased cycles of REM sleep and for a longer period of time. For me it was happening nearly every time I go to sleep. The constant REM sleep became scary, and i told me doc, but he just said to give strattera a few more weeks and see how it goes. wtf.

Not any nightmares, did scare the wife a week or so ago jumping up out of the bed and fighting with whomever and yelling...... Yes, the dreams have been more vivid now that you mention it.

I have had much more vivid dreams, but nothing scary (currently on 30mg). Sounds strange, but I'm actually enjoying it. It's like living a second life while I'm asleep :)

I have been on Strattera 60mg for 5 years now and I rarely get nightmares but get really vivid lifelike dreams.

I suppose it would be nice or interesting if they were just dreams and not nightmares.

I have gotten nightmares often since i was very young so this is not new for me but I don't usually more than 1 or 2 a night. I only started stratera last week and the nightmare are becoming more intense. I woke up this morning covered in sweat after what seemed like nightmares all night long.

I wonder if the fact I have nightmares so often anyways stratera is maybe just aggravating the situation and making it worse but it seems others have said the same thing about themselves so i dunno. Does this eventually wear off or is it a constant side affect of the meds?

Since I am on a fairly low dose atm I am a little worried that it will get worse when I move up to stronger doses. Anyone notice them get worse with higher doses?

When I tried it my Doc warned me that I might have vivid dreams or night terrors. Some of the other people he has prescribed it to have reported dreams like this to him.

I just started taking strattera a week or so ago and I had those vivid dreams and night terrors but the past couple nights I just couldn't fall asleep. I have always had trouble sleeping but it seems worse maybe now. I wasn't sure if maybe the meds were affecting it. Maybe the time of day its taken? Has anyone else had trouble sleeping or just the nightmares?

Did you Google it? How does Strattera affect sleep?

lol (wonders why I didn't think to google it in the first place) and I probably did google and have forgotten what I found.

I have had more vivid dreams too. I read some where that one treatment for narcoplepsy is very similar to the way that Stattera works. I feel like my REM sleep is much longer than it has ever been before I started taking it. I have been on it for over five months and I think I had one nightmare. I have seen posts where people have said that they do not think they are getting a good night's rest because the dreams are so active and vivid, but as I understand it REM sleep is the most revitalizing part of the sleep cycle.

I have also seen a study by the head of the University of Michigan Sleep Center that said that ADD symptoms could be caused by sleep disorders like sleep apnea. He found that children with ADD that had their tonsils removed had an improvement in their ADD symptoms after their tonsils were taken out. Because you are constantly waking up with sleep apnea throughout the night, you can never get to the REM stage of sleep. Now this study was not scientifically validated, but it is pretty interesting. To find the study, just google University of Michigan sleep ADD study.

I am digressing a bit, but I think there is some connection. Since I work in Ann Arbor, MI, I have been tempted to have a sleep study done to see if I am experiencing true REM sleep while on Strattera.

I've always had vivid lifelike dreams o.o They're usually so bizarre they're scary enough as it is o.o;;;

I've had dreams like that, with the occasional nightmare, all my life, way before I ever started taking anything.

I just started this a couple of days ago... and I don't think I dreamed at all o.o;; This crap is making me so darn tired XPPP

I stopped taking it partly because of the nightmares and also cause it made me mean! Waiting for the dr to call me back.
