I am in Western Civilazation and have a hard time remembering all the information for quizes just cant get the hang of it.. The instructor use a powerpoint and I get that as it is part of my accommodations.

I write my lessons out the night before class so I can just add information i class and do more listening. I have a hard time figure the important point in the book and taking notes.

In my math class, I have a hard time with learning and remembering.. My class homework is on the computer and the computer and I dont mix. I have a hard time remembering formula's. I have gone to the tutorer and cant find one I understand. One is from india, and is technique is to ofar advance for me, another girl named amy use the calculator and I cant see how the work is done. I dont know what to do. I think I am only passing one class and if feels terrible. Tonight is not a good night. I think I am dyslexic and no one seem to want to help. I dont know what to do. I know, my psychologist is the only one who understands me.

All my teacher dont understand learn problems. They all say you seem to understand it when we go over it togetther but when i am alone trying to do it ... forget it... then I go back to and tell the I dont understand, but cant verbalize it.

I really think there needs to be a Homework help for students here. Seems there are several with the same problems.

I was the same way before I started my meds. Since then I have been better. For me the best thing that helped was repetitive drilling. If I dont understand at all I goto my prof for help. Luckily hes really good at helping out.

If do you need some math help I can always see if I can help you out.

What are thei sites? I read like someone who is dyslexic. I read a source from history to my therapist. I sounded like a first grader. In a sense I was embarrassed and in another sense was glad he heard me read. It gives himn insight to how hard reading is for me.

I know there have been many time I dont read all of a post. I just want to get to the response and type in a message to the person.

I need did have testing done in 2003 but the result were not specific enough, mild neurocognitive disorder due to epilpesy....

I do need help in reading and math... and comprehension. OH god yes...

go to this site..

www.ldonline.org (http://www.ldonline.org) it is very good

you might have dyslexia, or another form of learning disability (LD)

the 3 characteristics of a LD are deficits in..

- memory
- attention
- perception

funny how ADD also has deficits in working memory and in attention! And yes, you can have ADD and an LD together.

Now with these 3 characteristics - they are for all types of LD. The only difference between types of LD is the way in which those characteristics manifest themselves. For example you could have an LD which concerns mainly reading (dyslexia), mathematics (dyscalculia*), or listening (central auditory processing disorder - which has nothing to do with your ears, and everything to do with how your brain processes what your ears pick up).

* Some of you might scoff at the 'hilarity' of a "maths disability" , but what it means is things as serious as: doesn't understand numbers (not at all, not even 1 to 10), doesn't understand "counting" or "quantity" at a basic level.

Chris, my advice is, go look on that site, and also go get yourself tested. Also go to the library and look for any books written by RICK (RICHARD) LAVOIE, who is an internationally renowned leading expert in the field of ADHD and LD. He's had many years experience working with kids and adults like this, as a teacher and a principal.

thanks ADDitives, I have been getting frustrated with my work in college. I cant figure out why I dont understand.

Why I read like a first grader in some subject.

I will look into it. I like the ldonline. I did some research for a powerpoint and got my infromation at that site. I will let you know how it turns out.

glad to be of help

Last semester I studied a unit in Intervention for Learning Difficulties, which included Learning Disabilities, so if I can be of any help to you, just ask me - probably better to PM or email me (see profile), because I might forget to check this thread.

haha... i typed all that and then thought the 'task' was done, so i almost pressed 'back' rather than 'send reply'

Ever think about trying a memory system, like Harry Lorayne's?

Last year one of my profs thought that I was dyslexic so that's what started me into testing and what not. She said it was just ADD, and nothing else. I know that there's something else tho. I didn't answer any of the math questions she asked right. But she put it off as "oh I'm sure you would have gotten them if they were written out." But most likely not. A couple things I've learned with math are number the steps of the problems. And then as you solve them write the number of the step beside what you are doing. Also try to keep it as organized as possible. With reading, try using something to track -- like a bookmark under the line you are reading. I hope these help!

snow pirate thanks . The reading idea with the book marker I do most of the time. I have to print articles out when on the computer, I read best from papers instead of the computer or a book.

When I work a math problem

I write each step under each other

like I am writing this sentence.

Does this make sense?

Thanks for the ideas...

Sorry if anyone has been waiting for response, my modem was dead.
