View Full Version : Oh my ADD mind; simple and complicated all together!
Michiko74 03-10-07, 12:36 AM Do you ever notice how utterly strange ADD can be sometimes? :p Allow me to elaborate...
Sometimes when people are explaining things to me, I need them to say it in a systmatic, point form, linear format. Like you're following a flow chart. And yet, in the same breath, when I try to follow 'simple' direction, often what ends up happening is I've missed something all together. So quite clearly, I need more elaboration.
I will often say that I need my time alone, and I do. But I can't have too much time alone, cause I need the interaction and feedback from people.
I mean, is it just me? This almost schzniophernic (sp?) thing with information is so bizzare. But is this just ADD or is it something else?
Tracy H. 03-10-07, 06:44 AM LOL..you are NOT alone..I often say "in point form please"
and I DREAM of time alone..but after a while I am bored and want company..
we can't win..can we :-)
TabbyKat 03-11-07, 11:06 AM Deff. not alone! IT's one of the things that drives DH nuts about me. Sometimes (most...heh) even simple tasks have to be explained to me in point form. And most of the time, they have to be repeated. Often. Like, after I complete each step...Argh!
ADDosaurusRex 03-11-07, 12:02 PM yes, i can relate as well. either people over explain things, which super irritates me, and as they talk all i can think about is punching them in the face, not that i would ever in a millions years do that, but it annoys me so much i just want them to shut up. or sometimes i often need, extremely specific details, even on simple things like tabbykat mentioned, things that i should know, or else I am totally clueless.
and the being alone thing is the same way. for the most part i can't stand to be by myself when I am trying to work, but I get easily irritated/distracted by other people, I just need bodies around me, so I pretty much live at coffee shops with my headphones on when I'm not at school or work.
hey, maybe ADHD isn't the problem. perhaps those without it are the problem, and should just adjust to our way of being.
hmmm...i smell an adhd uprising...
spacedout 03-12-07, 04:31 PM Completely off topic (my mom taught me to say that before going completely off topic--it works!)
TabbyKat, I love your Dory (sp?) picture-thing! I absolutely LOVED that movie, and Dory is my hero. Every ADD child (and adult) should get the chance to watch Finding Nemo. Speaking of my mom, she acutally hated it for the same reason I liked it--Dory reminded her of everything she dislikes about me:( However, as a result, she gave me her copy of the movie, so I'm not complaining too much.
Back to topic: yeah following directions, especially simple ones, is oh so hard for me. Especially when the directions are given verbally.

Thank you! Dory is the greatest! I see myself in her a whole lot. When my husband talks to me, I sometimes turn and say "May I help you?" :D The icon helps me remember to just keep swimming through this non-ADD world as best as I can.:)
Back to topic. lol
