It seems that at any given time I have at least 6-10 web browser windows open. I'll have at least 3-4 different Web Forums on that I'm constantly jumping back and forth between, refreshing pages and scanning for anything interesting.

I would say that Internet Browser use alone gives a glimpse into the ADD mind. 10 different things going at once.

6 currently, I open one and before I've finished with that one, i go on to another one, but leave the other open for later.

I only have one browser window (Firefox) open at any given time... I usually have multiple tabs in that window though.

Occasinally I will open Safari to make sure something looks ok, or I need to be logged into a website on multiple accounts...

I have anywhere from 3-12 tabs in one browser window-much easier than several windows and accomplishes the same purpose! If I am working on a project the number of tabs goes very high!

Sometimes I have 2 browser windows open-especially for pm's on this site.

I quit using Mozilla because the dern thing kept allowing me to get viruses.
Don't ask me why.
So I found an archive of Netscape 7.1, and that's what I run.
No viruses, and no problems.
BTW, my computer is 6 years old, so I don't have the memory to run
Firefox.
Eventually I will get a new computer, but for now, it serves my needs.
A few forums, yahoo e-mail, etc.
My answer (as an ADDer will go all over before giving it...) is 1 window at a time.

I use Linux and it enables me to have four desktops running at the same time with a whole slew of programs running simulataneously: email, many tabs in mozilla, a text editor for work stuff, music, and of course a few games, ripping new music from a webcast, etc.

It is the ADD OS IMHO.
I'm tempted to preach its virtues but I'll spare you and instead I'll just put in this: :soapbox:

I always have multiple tabs and multiple windows open. On average i will have 2 or three IE windows open with 2-6 tabs each but this gets much higher if im doing research for school or trying to find specific information. It seems I always find something more to look at while not finished with the first thing.

*lol* Oh man.. if my dr's diagnosis didn't confirm my ADD, this thread certainly has! :) But that's a good thing, because I'm sitting here going, "oh you too?" *laugh*

Like movingshadow, I'll have a 3-4 tabs open and play games at the same time. In fact, there's one game I like playing but hate that I can't access my tabs at the same time I'm playing it.

Wow I have six tabs open right now and I have recently closed a few. . . I almost always have word up because if I didn’t write my stuff in word first you would not be able to read what I wrote. I tried foxfire but did not care for it much. . . ..some times I am running more than one computer. I have a toggle so I can run more than one computer from the same key board and monitor.

Hmmm a new and very insightful "test" for ADD. . .. browsers!

Excellent point going on there.

I first realised there might be something "wrong" with me when my partner was looking over my shoulder and helping my with a spreadsheet...and i had at least 3 IE windows open at the same time and kept flicking between them while working on the spreadsheet. Drove him absolutely mad but it is like i focus better on work if i distract myself with little "bits" of internet inbetween....anyone else find this?

Yeah, I was trying to explain this behavior to my Wife last night. She asks me, "Won't you get in trouble for spending time on the internet at work?"

It's hard for me to explain to her that the only way I can stand even being at work and sitting there still in one spot for 8 hours is to have multiple things going on at once.

I try to tell her that I work best when I have multiple projects running concurrently.

I'll have one server that I'm building that I'm connected to via a KVM console
I'll have the project documents for another open at the same time
I'll have 6-7 different emails that I need to respond to open
I'll have 2-3 Word/Excel docs with various things ranging from personal stories I'm writing to technical documents
Then there's the secret browser that integrates into whatever window is currently open (GhostZilla, it's worth checking out) with 7-10 tabs with different sites.

All day long I'm like some mad puppeteer pulling strings and making all the different tasks dance and getting everything done just in the nick of time. It's hard to get her very straightforward mind to comprehend how this level of chaos is the only way of doing things that feels "normal" to me.

Yep, its funny...i've often worried about getting in trouble at work about being on the internet al the time, but i really couldn't stand staying in my chair and doing actual work if it wasn't for that! It is hard to explain to people that i'm still more productive than most other people, even with all the surfing i do....and i don't stand around other people's desks all day long and gossip so what is the problem with it really?

I usually have at least 20 Internet Explorer windows open on average. Several word files open, several excel files, several explorer folder windows and then a few pdf's, photo editing, etc.

My spouse thinks I am nuts for always having 2 dozen explorer windows open at one time. I didn't even realize that wasn't normal until he said something (we are both software engineers). How do "normal" people get by with only 2 windows open at a time?

It truly is a glimpse into how my mind operates internally. I usually have that many things that I am thinking about or in the middle of working on at any time.

I use Firefox and have at least 3 tabs open at any given time. Lately I've been obsessed with researching ADD so at least one tab is for this forum. Email is always another tab and also Google Reader. I subscribe to RSS feeds for about 30 blogs, and I'm always adding new ones. It's like having dozens of windows open within one window! And I'd love to ditch XP for Linux but I don't think all my favorite programs will run on it. I'd be in heaven having multiple desktops, drooooool!

This is so funny, I also constantly have many tabs open at a time, usually 5-10, and flick through them aswell (but I don't really flick through them as much when medicated). Something else like this - does anyone flick though the TV channels at a feverish rate also? I remember my sibling used to get so mad at me 'cos I'd never stay on one channel for more than a second, or a few.

We have Dish Network and it's impossible to do anything quick with their remote. I noticed the same thing when we had Comcast Digital Cable a few years back, too.

Yes, I do this with the TV also, i will flick through channels for ages until i find a program that i really like, or a good football game. ;)

And i normally have about 5-10 tabs on at once, but i get so hyper focused on one sometimes that i forget all about the rest. :)

I usually have a few tabs open in Firefox, and always get the 'are you sure you want to close these 3/4/5 tabs?' when I go to quit!

I also run dual monitors so on the other one I usually have a few IM programmes, winamp, utorrent and outlook express (set to check for emails every 5 mins!) - my desktop is never quiet!

Normally I have anywhere from 5 to 20 tabs open in Firefox.
I simply love the tabs in Firefox! I couldn't stand the old Internet Explorer because Windows would make it into a group after opening just a few windows. I didn't know where anything was :p

-gNice I use linux too and it does rule... Although I'm not going to talk about the benfits to much becuase its not the topic of the fourms.

However I do take advatange of its 4 desktop use, and at any given time I use IE, Firefox, opera and I have them open more then one time upto 10 to 15 borwsers open. I also have 10 to 15 other windows ontop of that open.

They will stay open all week or until the coputer is rebooted. Which is not a good idea I know but I forget or don't pay attention and end up leaving the computer on with all windows open at the end of each day.

Right now, 14 tabs, but I usually close my least interesting tabs so that they don't overflow and require the use of the little arrow thing. I guess that's 7 tabs usually...

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I found it so funny.

I get made fun of at the office, because of the number of "windows" & tabs I have open.

Today's example: (it's only 8:48am)
15 email messages opened.
Oulook is open in 3 seperate windows - Inbox, Calendar, Tasks
(3) instances of Internet Explorer (Total of 24 tabs)
(2) MS word docs open
(2) Excel Docs open
One window of all my reminders piling up (43 currently)

...and here I sit, posting on the forum. :D

I have two browsers open, about 30 tabs in one, and just one in the other. That's pretty average for me, I guess. I got really ****ed at the newer firefoxes that make it a lot harder to do tabbed browsing with large numbers of tabs.

Sometimes I will have so many things on the computer that the windows toolbar goes to the idiotic wrap mode, many of them web browsers.

When I programmin in linux I'd have 8 desktops full of 20+ instances of emacs each, so I could instantly switch between all the things I am editing, which is everything all at once.

It's SO frustrating to know I can throw myselff into things like that and do a million things at once for work and do more than anyone, but that 80% of the time I can't get myself to do ANY work.

Hmmm...most of the time I have msn, FF one window w/ 2-5 tabs, a text editor with maybe two or three different documents, some internet radiostation.
Sometimes I have an illustrator program open too and som pictures besides for references.

Not too bad, I think.

I had Linux/Ubuntu at one time, but I'm not a computergeek so I had to change again which annoyed me to no end, both because of principle but also I still miss some things, among those worst missed are the multiple desktops someone else in this thread referred too. That part of the system kicks ***! Loved it! :)

I just got a Mac now and am learning my way around it.
Must say I wish I could just build my own little system because all three systems I've tried have things I like a lot and things that annoy me wildly. If I could just take parts from those systems and combine them, I'd just love that! :P
