View Full Version : Dreams?
overmyhead 03-20-07, 09:24 PM I am wondering if any of you have a similar dream experience to me, and if that has anything to do with ADD? I am not officially dx, but am sure I have it. The last therapist I saw referred me to a psychiatrist after testing but he thought I am just majorly depressed, due to an adjustmenmt disorder after my daughter was dx with autism. He prescribed heavy duty drugs I was not prepared to deal with and so I never did anything and never followed up. Anyway, my point... my dreams are never start to finish. They are hundreds of snippets, all night long, of random, unrelated things. No plot, no connecting themes, nothing. Does anyone else experience this? Is this connected to ADD?
I have dreams that don't make much sense sometimes.
Some of it could be the meds.
I even have dreams of working in my former office.
I'm not sure that's going back to the good times or not. LOL
They reflect what you did years ago, or something you watched before bed.
The ADD brain tends to skip around anyway.
But so do others.
I can dream of chasing the bad guys in the Daytona ala Miami Vice (the original series, as I'm reliving my teen years by watching it on Sleuth each night).
I can dream of work (why on my personal time?), or 20 years ago when I was a teen with no cares in the world.
I've had ADD since I was a kid, and my dreams can sometimes seem like they go on all night, or just snipets like what you have.
I wake up several times a night, and so I dream different dreams.
Just because your brain jumps around in dreams, doesn't mean you have
ADD.
Check out some of the resources on here, and talk with a Dr.
If you have ADD, so what?
We all lead normal lives on this board.
No, scratch that.
We lead EXCEPTIONAL lives, because of the ADD!:D
The only thing weird I have really noticed about my dreams is that sometimes they warn me about things... No lie! Once I had a dream about my ex and I got back together... That day she called... (We never really talked much after the breakup) And I believe there was one other time someting like that happened, but I can't remember...
TygerSan 03-21-07, 10:46 AM Hmm. . . I dunno whether this is an ADD thing. I rarely remember my dreams, and when I do they're somewhat coherent (though they do tend to randomly switch settings in the middle), usually because they're the ones that are intense enough to wake me up . Everyone dreams every night. . . most people just don't remember most of them. . . so maybe you're just really good at remembering your dreams?
babypin 04-18-07, 03:19 PM My dreams are usually completely insane and incredibly random~~
The other day I dreamt Snape from Harry Potter killed a polar bear with a pen. Then he pasted a note framing someone to the pen and hid the "murder weapon" under the ceiling.
I have no clue what that's supposed to mean :p
I believe most dreams are symbolic, and have had good luck looking up the symbols.
In the polar bear dream, for example:
Wizard = Honing your skills or exercising power
- alternatively, Snape was a teacher, wasn't he? Theacher = issues with authority or seeking approval. OR it represents feeling like you are being treated like a student or are being 'put to the test'.
Polar Bear = reawakening
Pen = self expression, communication. Interesting aside here; think of the expression "the pen is mightier than the sword" !!
Kill - part of your life that you want to leave behind (kill it off)
To see a Killer in your dream represents an essential part of your emotions are cut off; loosing your identity. OR a purification, a dramatic end to something.
Ceiling - mental/spiritual perspective, OR a limit you have put on yourself.
So, there could be a couple interpretations, depending on what is going on in your life, and of course how you view the primary character: a wizard, a teacher or a killer;
Part of you that wants to be empowered or hone some skills/grow, but essential emotions are cut off, and therefore destroying the re-awakening. Communication/self expression is hiding behind a mental or spiritual perspecitive (a belief)
or-
Using communication/self-expression to put a dramatic end to a re-awakening, and then hiding that expression in a self-limitation or a belief.
Only you would know the exact arrangement of the symbols to know what meaning rings true for you.
Also, any 'little' details in the dream are important, as are the feelings you have about the people and events in them - if you LOVE the character snype, it has a different implication than if it is a character you associate with deception and distrust....
Anyway, just my two cents about dreams.
Thus, I don't think it necessarily matters if the dream has a 'story' or a lot of action in it. Its the symbols that are represented in each snap-shot. Often when I have the fortune of rememberering several dreams in one night they will have a common symbolic thread, different ways to symbolize the same meaning. It's been pretty amazing!
meadd823 04-19-07, 04:58 AM I normally forget my dreams or remember only a few bits here and there. I have also had times where I am dreaming and then wake up just enough to go to the bath room then I go back to sleep and pick the dream up where I left off.
FightingBoredom 04-19-07, 09:27 AM Most of my dreams are like being in a surrealistic movie. Watching and being the main character at the same time.
Sometimes they seem like I've been living a different life for days...then I wake up only to wish I was still in the dream world.
Other times, much less frequently, they jump from scene to scene like I'm flipping channels on the TV.
I've always had very intense dreams--whether medicated or not.
StuggliesWife 04-19-07, 11:52 AM I am not ADD and I don't have dreams that are start to finish. They bounce all over the place.
I also believe dreams are a way of our subconscience dealing with things and I also believe dreams are used as warnings or a way to solve a problem. Oh, and I also have an autistic son.
