Do you think everybody with ADHD is loud and distruptive?

I am a quiet person who will sit in the corner of my class on my own, not talking to anybody, but i keep getting spaced out and restless in my seat, and i often fidget with the closest object to me on my desk.

My doctor told me that it wasnt ADHD because im quiet and i hardly ever open my mouth about anything unless i have too.

Is my doctor right?

Or can quiet people have ADHD?

I'm quiet and kind of reserved unless I'm in comfortable situations in which case, I'm all over the place. I have an acute sense of hearing, though so I try to keep it down.

Also, I know what it's like to have noisy neighbors so I keep the TV & radio down for their sakes.

Fraz,

welcome to ADDF!

Yes, it's very possible. You see there are 3 types of ADHD.

(1) hyperactive
(2) inattentive
(3) combination of the above 2

Those with inattentive (like me) tend to be quiet(er), daydreamers, "space cadets," etc. Those with hyperactive tend to bounce off the walls & talk a lot. There are some with a combination of the two.

I hope this helps!

Its strange with me because sometimes i feel really excessive and i just want to be up and about even when its inappopriate.

But sometimes just want to sit down chill out and have a little daydream to myself.

Also, i have a problem controling my moods sometimes.

Sometimes i feel really over excited, sometimes over agressive, and sometimes over depressive.

I have never been diagnosed with anything other than my aspergers.

Im starting to wonder if it is ADHD, maybe its bipolar, or maybe its just me, i really dont know what to think about anything anymore, im just so mixed up inside.

I guess if one wanted to interpret that literally...

No, he is wrong (unless he is calling what you are referring to as ADD, not ADHD (being literal here)).

But according to modern day standards (well, technically we'd be speaking of AD/HD), ADHD is the correct term in context of the predominately inattentive subtype (a.k.a. ADHD without hyperactivity). Your profile is quite typical of those in this group... mainly those who are predominantly inattentive from the start (unlike those who grow out of hyperactivity and are labeled inattentive later in life). According to some sources (I think Dr. Barkley is one), those in this inattentive-from-the-start (what Dr. Barkley calls SCT) group tend to be introverted.

Is it possable to be inattentive from the start, and then grow into hyperactivity?

Apologies if this is a stupid question.

If one started as non-hyperactive, and became hyperactive, then I would probably suspect another condition, like anxiety or sleep deprivation. That wouldn't imply not having ADHD, but you could be ADHD inattentive + some other condition that accounts for the "hyperactivity".

I am not exactly sure if it is possible for inattentives' to "grow-into" hyperactivity. I would think not... at least, it would be something else other than ADHD.

Your doctor is wrong. I'm quietly ADD. Lots of problems with focus all through school years... just quietly not paying attention.

I agree with Highfunctioning - people who are hyper may loose some of the hyperness however rarely if ever does one go from inattentive introvert to hyperactivity. If the hyperness developed in latter tens or adult hood then there are other conditions that should be looked into in my opinion.

Bi-polar some anxiety as well as a few physical conditions will cause this to occur - others conditions can be separate {not occurring with ADD} but to make things even more confusing they can all also occur with ADD.
