Does anybody here have problems reading long posts?

I know i do, i understand about the first paragraph or 2, and when i continue to read on i dont take in the general meaning of the words, and i tend to find myself repeat reading things over and over until my mind takes in the meanings of the words and sentences.

I skip long posts all together if they aren't important enough... which is about 99% of em lol!

I was afraid to open this because I thought it might be a long post, haha. The long involved stories are the hardest to follow.

I'll scan through a long post to find if it adds something of value to, or answer the original poster's question or situation. I try not to skip long posts all together since someone spent the time to write it, and felt it was important to make it that long.

Well, I write long posts very well, thank you!

If they're borken up somewhat I can get through a long one, reading it. SOme of them... uf'ly the ones written by the most pained and desperate people... well, they're too dense and I don't make it.

I can read books okay, but those presumably have been filtered through editors and such people, for maximum readability.

I can read long post if they are broken up into paragraphs. I do better medicated because I can sit still longer and my mind doesn't go in six differnt directions which can lead to some interesting responses.

I also have dyslexia so it does take a little time and effort to get through the longer post. . . .hey some one went through a lot of time and effort to write all those words. . . .I try to respect that.

I don't have the attention span to read long posts. I keep my posts short, I figure others might have the same problem I do.

Friends, Friends, Friends,

I am not trying to be mean, but you need mental discipline. I use to have the same problem. I still do, but its through just making yourself just do it. Its never easy. Much like a baby, if they could not turn over, they could never learn to crawl. If they never crawled they would never stand. If they could not stand they would never walk. Take time to stand so you will walk, run and grow with all life has to offer. Don't just look at the pictures(ie short posts) Even though I like pictures and they are great to look at, they never give all you need to feed your soul. Dont take the easy way out. You end up selling yourself short and only end up hurting yourself by not giving yourself what you need.

No one can or will do it for you so don't wait on that. Turn yourself over, crawl, stand and walk. If your diaper is too full of **** to walk, change it. If your mind is too cluttered to concentrate, clear it out. Many ways to do it if you want to bad enough. A bodybuilder was not birthed that way. We all were infants once. Strengthen your mind.

Try meditation at first, that really helps clear up the clutter in your mind keeping you just looking at the pictures. Trust me, you can do it and will be surprised what you are missing. You will look back on yourself and be proud how you have grown and matured. If you need help, please let me know I would love to help.

Take Care,
Zeb

Zebulon, I can appreciate that you're trying to encourage ADDers to stretch themselves a bit. But the fact is, processing information is not a matter of personal peference more than eye colour. I think you have good intentions, but perhaps they may be misguided a bit.

ADD symptoms can benefit from practices such as mediation, but that alone doesn't really address the issue. It's like saying meditate and you can fix nearsightedness. If we could "clear up the clutter" our minds with mediation alone, this forum wouldn't exist.

Back to the original question... if the poster puts out a long one, yes I will scan for most of it. If I feel the need, than I will read it with some more effort.

Hello Michiko,
Very true. Just never know until they give it a try. Many times people think they cant do something and never try. If you do try it and does not work, you can either accept that or keep trying. Sure they are limitations, you just have to know what they are. Least that way you can improve. I was just saying from my personal experience. I don't want to see the same thing happen to them as me. I was so tired of how things were going blaming everything I would not do or get done on ADD and found out I had no one to blame but me.

Sure mediation wont cure but it helps when you are doing other things to help, just part of a total program. If you do one thing that helps a little, and do something else that helps a little and so on. Before you know it you are feeling better. No one thing you can do will do it. Takes a little bit of this and bit of that more of this less of that until you have your ADD under control least to where you can live with it better. There is no quick fix when it comes to ADD. Through proper meds and behavior modifications offers us all help.

Foremost, we can clear up the clutter. That is why this web site is here. If you take the time to read what others are going through and what others have done I really feel with my heart and convictions there has to be someone maybe just one person it would help to do this. For that, it is worth it and why we are here telling our past and current experiences showing we are not alone and there are people just like us had or having the same problems, issues and more important success. Through the good times and the bad sharing them helps people feel not so alone. In my mind, that has to clear up and make sense of the feelings we all have.

For real not trying to be mean to Ya. I totally appreciate and respect your comments. Feel free to share them anytime. Oh yea you said you scan through stuff to see if you want to read it, that is the way to do it. That is a great example of time management.

Take Care,
Zeb

Although it does take more than meditation to treat my ADD for without medication sitting long enough to meditate wouldn’t be possible.

I think some is attentional and comprehension issues while others who read only short post do so due to preferences. There is validity in what Zebulon says because I rarely read long post because of my dyslexia however when I began moderating I began trying harder because I had to read to moderate. Now I can read longer post and it easier than it used to be when I first started.

Long post should be broken up into paragraphs. Scanning or reading parts of each paragraph to determine interest also helps. Why poor through a dissertation length post who’s message is of no interest to you.

After all ADD = boredom aversion .

Congratulations Meadd823, that is exactly what I am talking about. Sure it may not work well for everyone, but the few it does wow how much better it feels when it does. Keep up the good work! If you never gave it a try, you would not be on the exciting and healing road you are on today.

Well I will just tell Ya. Its Springtime:cool: . Been a long dark scary winter and I am glad to have made it to this most wonderful beautiful time of the year. Even though everything seems so dead in winter, but actually everything is growing taking time to prepare for the glorious day they will bud to life and reach full bloom. Look at the dark times as winter. Gets cold, dark long and depressing, and sometimes you get peed on by a passing dog. But Ya know what? Someday you will be in full bloom too.

Ode to Springtime: If I was a dog you would be a flower. So I will lift my leg and give you a shower.

Enjoy Springtime Everyone,
Zeb
