i'm taking 60 mg a day of XR. today i went to the mall and had a bag with a stupid flap that snaps over the top, and apparently dropped a full month's supply of pills (and my ipod) somewhere. the nurse practitioner at the clinic sounds unsympathetic about the prospect of replacing them. i just filled them last week so i'm pretty much freaking out about this - no clue why i was walking around with a bottle except i was on an out-of-town trpi. i won't be able to talk to my psychiatrist until thursday and he, apparently, has the power to issue some kind of prescription in writing to override it but that's it. i have an additional prescription which i probably can't get filled, unless anyone knows how i could go about trying to do it or if a pharmacy would help me. has anyone had experiences with getting their stuff lost/stolen and what do you think the chances are? a friend offered to float me a few until thursday but i don't know what'll happen after that. i imagine it doesn't matter that i refilled my last prescription late b/c i probably can't get another refill until 30 days from then. agh. help..

You can take the script and fill it at another pharmacy using cash. It sends up a red flag and that's how drug seekers get caught but I think 1 time doesn't result in police at your door. Don't take my word for it.

I have never had a pharmacy fill a stimulant/ triplicate script in less than 30days, ever. Now I don't know if there are specfic things in your state regulations or not.

I am not touching the whole "friend" lending you some thing. My opinion is if it's exactly the same thing...pill/dosage..your decision. Although if your friend got caught or you had their bottle wiht their name on it , that could cause some trouble, it's considered "drug trafficing" I think? But I would check before you freak out. I can say I have done this only with my family members who are on exactly the same thing/dosage and they are medical professionals?

I know it happens, it sucks that because of the increased use of it in the society as an abused drug, it makes it very hard for us! And being ADD and all I would think it's pretty common, mistake. Since we have a tendency to lose things. Especially if you are out of your normal routine. I don't know if I would feel anymore comfortable leaving it in my hotel room either?

I don't know if you want to call and talk to someone about making a report to the police, even a "log" in report so you are covered. Not like an addict is going to report they lost their amphetimines? Well unless they are dumb.

I have forgotten appointments, that have resulted in me having to wait some time in between getting a new script. While I chase down the doctor and tell them look, I don't have 3 weeks to wait for you to make me an appointment. My family/ job etc won't survive that long ..LOL..they are usually pretty understanding about that one.

Perhaps next time you can carry one of those "pill" boxes..that has the days on it...and that might help you just keep a "few" of them in case you need to take a dose before you get back to where you main bottle is?

Don't know if that helps...you are still kinda stuck until you talk to the doc?

I do not suffer from ADD, I rather enjoy every minute of it.... it appears to be those around me that suffer!

This is so true!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

I have had mine both lost and stolen (I beleive a co-worker was taking them from my desk drawer!). When I lost them, I had about a 2 week supply and my doc had no problem refilling it for me. I suppose it all depends on what kind of relationship you and the do have.

It's a local clinic that serves a lot of drug addicts too, I think. Actually they were willing to refill it for me and admitted they had a policy of replacing something one and only one time if it got lost. Whew. Thanks y'all.

I'm glad it worked out for you because I have no idea what I would do in that situation. That would be the worst month! I would get nothing done and be suffering in so many other ways! I bet you are relieved.

I had a whole bottle stolen from my car a couple weeks ago. Fortunately, I had a two-weel supply left from my last bottle, and just dropped off a new prescription yesterday. Honestly, this pharmacy never says boo to me when I'm in there before the month is up.

i lost a rx of dexedrine for the 3rd time and I am learning how to live non-medicated for awhile. I am off of it to assess how well I function and to see if I'm a junkie or not I guess. I don't feel so bad because I have the motherload of Adderall from the time I was prescribed that so they are there if it becomes unbearable for me, I also found a bunch of Concerta as well in my tote in the disaster area known as my closet.

I protect my ritalin like gold. I would hate to have to go back to the doctor and ask for a refill early. Ya know how some doctors are these days. I would hope my doctor would allow the occassional refill for lost or stolen meds. I think my doctor would be cool about it.

I'm nervous about losing mine; I'm on IR, due to my funky schedule (night shift three times a week) and what I'm doing is putting a few days worth a a time in the old prescription bottle and carrying that around; keeping the new bottle at home, with my vitamins. At least if I lose it it won't be ALLLLLL of it.

10-4. That's what I do, leave the bottle at home and take my day's supply with me.

I never (EVER) carry the full bottle out in public with me.

(To avoid having this happen !!)

--------------------------------------------------------

I carry a day's supply in my back right pocket (have a SPECIFIC location & make it habit).

THEN, if something happens where you might lose that... keep a backup of 2-6 doses in an ASPIRIN TIN or other TINY container in your Knapsack or Purse.

Most Doctors will make you wait until your "month" is up, then give another month's worth. (Perhaps with 1x-2x Refills on the Script, fillable at ~"30 days".)

I'd imagine you are out of luck until your 30 days runs out. :S

Amphetamines for injection (smoking, snorting) are in too high a level of demand. ADDERALL's street value [in particular] is too high.

Honestly, it sounds cruel, but if I were a Doc, I wouldn't hand out a full month of extra meds, either. :X

N.B. Maybe you can ask for 10 days worth? (To avoid absolute withdrawal; failure at work, etc)

I'm actually a little OCD when it comes to keeping track of my pills. I keep mine locked in a cabinet and know exactly how many pills I have left in the bottle. I take about 5 pills out of the bottle at a time and keep those in a little pill box and take them as needed. You never know what a nosy roommate will do.... Not that I would think my roommate would take any of my meds. I just like to keep my Addy under close watch. Losing a script or the actual pills means asking for more... which then throws up a red flag to my doc, the pharmacy, etc. because it's a controlled substance. I know things happen and things get lost or whatever, but in my opinion, it's better to be super-safe than to go through any potential crap that goes along with getting a new script filled.

I feel the same way. I don't want to get my doctor doubting me in any way. I am on too many medications that are helping me to risk that. I want my doctor to always trust me like she does now. I'm already paranoid enough about telling her my problems, thinking maybe she doesn't believe me.

Obviously that isn't true because I don't think she would put me on all of these meds if she didn't think I needed them. Isn't that true or could there be a motive behind them doing that that anyone knows of (they get more money, other benefits, etc)? Just wondering what everyone else thinks or knows of because my boyfriend thinks some doctors will willingly put you on all kinds of meds because they get money, etc. from it. He thinks doctors really don't care about their patients, they are just doing whatever benefits themselves.

Maybe that is why I am always so paranoid talking to my doctor.

I lost a prescription in the washing machine believe it or not about 13 or 14 years ago. I had left the pill bottle in a coat that I accidently put into the washing machine without remembering. I didn't hear any of the pills rattling around in the bottle when I tossed it into the machine due to the fact that I had put a few cotton balls in the bottle to keep the pills from rattling around and making any noise while I was wearing the coat that day.

Anyhoo, I was a little less than half way through the prescription as I recall, and so I called my Dr. and explained what happened. I figured he would either say that he could write me another prescription, or he would say that I would have to wait and suck it up. He wrote me another prescription, and I got it filled, and that was the last and only time I have ever lost a prescription.

I honestly think that the hassle/stress/paranoia involved with having to ask for anymore of these drugs before the current prescription expires is enough of a deterant to prevent most people from ever losing their script again. I have noticed that I have become much more cautious with my prescriptions since that laundry fiasco.

It's a pain when you lose them too much

I think the weekly pillbox is the best way to handle the daily organization of pill taking. It provides just a bit of needed structure

You shouldnt have asked to have them replaced at all. Every doctor gets at least one patient a week that comes in and says "my dog ate my controlled substance and some how lived".

At least it wasnt benzos, benzo withdrawal is on a completely different level of suck compared to amphetamines.

Never carry you entire supply with you!

I leave the majority locked in my desk at home and travel with a smaller bottle from an earlier scrip.

I think it's a good idea to keep the meds in an original bottle with your name and script on it just in case you are ever asked to prove it is your legal script, especially when traveling through airports.

Well old rx's of the generics and adderall tablets are there if I need them. The Adderall Tablets are 30's so they work as far as a dose that will level you out

I visited my nephew at his college and was eating lunch with him and his college buddies. Without thinking, I took out my pills and took my afternoon dose as I always do. Well, let me tell you, college kids can spot Adderall a mile away. All the sudden, I was peppered with offers of money in exchange for my pills. Some kids were offering $10 for a 20mg dose. I couldn't believe it. They were all over me like ants on honey. I had to cut my visit with my nephew short and get the hell out of there. They were so persistent even when I clearly stated that I'd never sell my pills to anybody under any circumstances. I tried to lecture them and provide guidance but they just laughed and offered more money. Now I am afraid that my nephew or his friends will try to rob me and I feel like I am being followed.
